  1. sjdean says... "And no, the prophet will never lead the church astray, but he might bend the truth and not be specific enough in some things if it is of benefit to the church." (01-17-2008, 11:48 PM) really? are you saying it's ok for the prophet to lie? i guess that could explain the time Pres. Hinckley was being interviewed by time magazine and when asked if the church believes if God was once a man, he said he wasn't sure. or when J. Smith said he only had one wife when he really had more than one. is it stuff like that that you mean?
  2. i just finished reading through these posts and didn't see the one thing that usually stands out to me as to why people "bash the church." that one thing is the fact that the lds church believes all other churchs are wrong and that the lds church is the only true church. That is what J. Smith said the Lord told him; "...all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me..." so, maybe these other churchs are defending their own beliefs? granted, they are going about it the wrong way. there's a post from AnthonyB that gives great examples for teaching that i both love and have seen. when i was going to college, every other week of so one of the christian organizations would hold a bbq in the quad that was free for anyone who wanted to sit down and have a hotdog, hamburger, chips and/or a drink. so, in short, i'm definatly against the kinds of protests with the 'cult' signs and hate speach. but, the church still teachs today that it is the ONLY true church on the face of the earth and that all the creeds of the other churchs are abominations in God's eyes, and i think that that belief opens the door for debate and contention.
  3. why do you type it 'G-d' instead of just typing God? It's not disrespect to call our God God, is it?
  4. i think it's hard to put an incomprehensible God into words and terms that our limited human brains can understand and fully comprehend.
  5. The LDS church owns the Marriot chain of hotels, or A mormon owns the chain? There's a difference.
  6. i don't understand everything about the trinity. neither do i understand everything concerning an eternal regression and eternal progression of Gods. when i read the scriptures, i take what God says at face value. i don't think he would say one thing and mean another. God says there is only one God and he knows not any other. that supports the idea of the trinity. father, son, holy spirit are one God. godhead is the belief in many Gods. Trinity = 1 God. Godhead = 3 Gods. in the bible and book of mormon, do you ever read God teaching that there is more than one God?
  7. sorry, i'm new to the board and didn't see the different pages of each thread. i've been reading for a while and now just found what i posted earlier. :) God says he doesn't know of any other Gods, right? If that's true, what about His God and his God and his God...? The Godhead itself is three Gods; that's the church's stance. How can God say he doesn't know of any other Gods if there are all these other Gods?
  8. The idea of the trinity follows the scriptures in the bible and even book of mormon that teach that there is only one God. If the bible and book or mormon say there is only one God, how can there be more than one God?
  9. i think that the clearest way to understand the trinity is by believing what the bible and even book of mormon teach. each book teaches over and over again that there is only one God. the doctrine of the godhead teaches that there is more than one God. which do we trust: the bible and book of mormon or the modern day revelation?
