vegeta1170
Hi there I have a question. My wife and I are going to get sealed in the temple in 2 months. My wife has two children from two other men and we want them to be sealed to us. We know that we need permission from the fathers but is there a form that we need for them to sign or what? And what do we do if we don't know where one of the fathers are? Also neither father has any custody over either child. One hasn't even seen his child in 11 years. The other one has just come in contact with us and has told us that he is OK with his daughter being sealed to us. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I talked to our bishop and he didn't have the answers that we are in need of.
BenRaines
Have the Bishop look in the handbook of instructions. There may be a form but if not then a simple letter from the birth fathers. If Bishop does not know the Stake President does or he can call Salt Lake and ask. Ben Raines
tubaloth
Talk to the stake president then. I'm not sure if there is a form, (church) or legal document. for the father you can't track down, I don't think that well be a problem. MorningStar
My friend did this after her ex-husband signed away his parental rights, but I don't know if that is necessary or not.
rameumptom
If your husband has full legal right over the kids, then no permission is necessary. If they still have some parental rights, or are paying child support, then you will have to get them to sign a paper authorizing the sealing. No form is necessary that I'm aware of. A living child who is born out of wedlock may be sealed to both of you without special approval at least one of the following conditions are met:1 – Your child is already married2- Your child reaches the age of 213 – Your child’s natural father si deceased4 – Your child’s natural father given singed consent for the sealing5 – Your child’s natural father rights have been terminated by legal process, such as court adoption.6 – Last, if the child’s natural father is missing and through extensive search, cannot be located, there is no consent form needed. This is where the Temple President and with help by your local ward Bishop can approve the sealing. Good luck and GOD bless….
