about this number thing - if i give them a number then i guess it should be linked to my name, and then they'll need i.d. i suppose. but i gave them my name - so surely that's enough, yet it didn't seem to matter much to them.

Membership in the Church is world-wide and beyond the boundaries of time, so the chance that there is or has been or will be another person on Earth with your name is pretty good. You might then argue that someone could check the membership records of the Church and look for someone with your name and your address, or your driver’s license number, or your social security number, or something else that is particular to you, but the Church has decided to assign you one of its own numbers to distinguish you between someone else with your name.

Make sense to you now?

So all I need is my membership # to buy garments? I don't need a temple recommend? I'll have to ask the missionaries if they can get that for me the next time they stop by.

I should have said that if you are a temple endowed member, all you need is your membership number. Maybe they don't verify every number, but I believe they are supposed to verify that you have received your endowments and are a member in good standing.

Well it sure can't hurt to try. I could make a killing on ebay.

The garment of the Holy Priesthood is a very sacred item. Adam and Eve were made clothing in the Garden of Eden by the Savior to wear as a protection and a remembrance of their covenants. Sometimes in our lives we fail to prioritize correctly, or eternally. At these times we may live our lives so that we do not qualify for a temple recommend. Yet, we are striving to "be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect." For this reason, once you have been endowed, always where your garments. Keep striving to be worthy again to enter into the House of the Lord. Keep the faith as Paul would say.

It is a new rule...I believe it was to discourage anti-Mormons from buying the garments and waving them around in public.

Great, so the anti-Mormons win, right?

You're not being censored. You're being moderated. And yes, you are still being moderated.

Then how did that one (pure mockery) get by????

Hey, for the most part this is a great post...thanks :)

I don't really care for the number thing though, a name with I.D. would seem more personal. I think I remember numbers in the last days being tied to something.... On the other hand there could be more then one Sally Sugarloaf. ;)

It was my understanding after going through the temple that we are to wear our garments worthily. They aren't just big pieces of underwear. They represent a great deal and if you are not living your life worthily you are "desecrating the garments"

or something like that..my back hurts...

No it is for the rest of your life.

Next time your in the Temple ask you’ll be given the right answer.

You can call a Temple office and the president or matron will tell you.

You can still get garments if you are a endowed member who’s temple recommend has lapsed. Ask your bishop. Seeing your bishop over buying garments also gives the person encouragement to work back to having a currant temple recommend.

I was in a stake years back were on your husband’s birthday there about you were asked to come in for a recommend interview. When I was asked to come in one Sunday.

I said “Why my recommend is still valid”? When told my husbands birth date was now the marker for my interview. I said “I don’t think so what’s wrong with my birth date”? The clerk said “he is the priesthood holder in your home” I could see the bishop over his shoulder, his eyes told me “Oh this is not going to go over well” I told the clerk that “I’ll see him around my birthday” and he could tell the stake president that and the chauvinist horse that the idea road in on”! That mandate died a quite death.

Is it not odd that the word “Mandate” has the word man in it?
