Col. Dave Grossman Grossman also has talked about the 'sheep, wolves and sheepdog mentality' I believe you can find it on his website. He said that it might be better to kill the other person merely than just incapacitating them- because you never know if they might have a hidden gun to kill you with, or (the main reason) there's plenty of cases where the perpetrator sued the victim because the victim seriously injured the perpetrator- and the case was upheld by the jury. In the end, the victim had to pay thousands and thousands of dollars to their would-be murderer.This is because most state statutes state if the occupant reasonably apprehends that the intruder may kill or inflict serious bodily harm to the occupant or others in the home or residence, lethal force is warranted.Meeting lethal force (the intruder) with nonlethal force ( a shot to leg) is an basically an admittance that the response was unwarranted. NeuroTypical Posted February 9, 2009 Report Share Posted February 9, 2009 If people are going to own a handgun for protection against home invasion for example, you must shoot to kill-- because you probably won't get another chance.Again, you shoot to stop - to end the attack - to remove the danger. It just so happens that the best way to end a violent attack and remove the danger, is to mortally wound.
