bytor2112 Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 Helen Thomas: Why is the president blocking habeas corpus from prisoners at Bagram? I thought he taught constitutional law. And these prisoners have been there . . .Robert Gibbs: You're incorrect that he taught on constitutional law.Read here.... Quote
Dravin Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 Realpolitik is alive and well. Not like it was ever in danger though. Quote
Just_A_Guy Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 This also challenges us conservatives to put our money where our mouth is. We supported Gitmo when Bush was running things, because we believed it to be in the best interests of national security. After making the obligatory points about hypocrasy, will we rally around our current President as he seeks to keep Bagram open? Quote
Madriglace Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 Iraq/Gitmo .... Afghanistan/Bagram .... so the differnce is what? Who's idea it is? Quote

Maxel Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 (edited) Dunno... Probably died in their throats. I think the President's right on this call (knowing as little about the situation as I do). War is brutal, and when we're dealing with people who want nothing more than to take us down and have the will to do it... What can you do? I guess this is one of those times when Obama's inexperience came to bite him in the back- condemning Bush's actions at Gitmo seems hypocrisy incarnate now. Although, I would rather have a President who recants his mistakes made in ignorance, and then makes the right choice. Now if he'd just do that with the economic situation... Hemidakota Posted April 23, 2009 Report Posted April 23, 2009 Read here....How true: "...As president, he is finding out that this very much is a new world, that we do face a new enemy, and that the problems posed by Guantanamo have less to do with the place than the people we detain there."Thanks for the worthy reading.
