It is driven by politics, ratings, and of course money. This is not the only case - how long did those suffering in Dafur wait to get any type of news coverage in the US. And, news coverage in the US can be totally different than in other parts of the world. Seems to me that we, US, has a much smaller perception of the worlds geography than other nations.
