volgadon Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 Congratulations! I sereved in the Russia Rostov Mission a couple of years ago. One of my good friends, a native Russian, served in Moscow and my very best friend (another native) is serving there now. Feel free to PM me and may I just add LUCKY!!! Quote
Cra-Z Posted July 20, 2009 Author Report Posted July 20, 2009 Hey, so, my mission call has officially been changed to the Ukraine Kiev Mission. Still Russian speaking and entering the same day. Quote
Guest JoshDwellington Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 Just being curious, how much Russian do you speak ? Have a friend who's at the MTC now, she serves in Estonia, heard these languages were hard to learn Quote
Cra-Z Posted July 20, 2009 Author Report Posted July 20, 2009 I don't speak too much, but I have a good base since I heard it a lot. A good vocabulary too. The trick is to figure out the grammar. I'm working on it now though. Quote
Honor Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 Hey, so, my mission call has officially been changed to the Ukraine Kiev Mission. Still Russian speaking and entering the same day.Wow, how did that come about? Quote
Cra-Z Posted July 20, 2009 Author Report Posted July 20, 2009 They don't tell you those kind of things. If you're talking to President Monson anytime soon ask him for me. ;-) Quote
Honor Posted July 20, 2009 Report Posted July 20, 2009 They don't tell you those kind of things. If you're talking to President Monson anytime soon ask him for me. ;-)Will do! Should have asked him at the Conference Center when we were both there on Friday. But seriously, they just sent you an addendum to your call? Quote
Cra-Z Posted July 20, 2009 Author Report Posted July 20, 2009 I just got a new letter signed by the prophet that says my call has been changed. That's pretty much it. New booklet and visa application etc... Quote
Dravin Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 My understanding is that they are currently having issues with Missionary Visas and Russia, they're requiring something like a renewal every 3 months forcing the church to fly them out of the country during the process (admittedly my understanding of the details isn't exactly rock solid), or at least that was the case a while ago, maybe its become the case again? Quote
Cra-Z Posted July 27, 2009 Author Report Posted July 27, 2009 Well that is somewhat the case, but it doesn't necessarily explain my call change as there are still other North American missionaries going to Russia. Even same mission, same day. Quote
beefche Posted July 27, 2009 Report Posted July 27, 2009 Cra-Z, when I went on my mission they had VISA problems with the whole Eastern Europe block. Everyone going to an Eastern Europe mission was called into a special meeting at the MTC (we were already there) and it was announced that due to VISA restrictions only x amount of missionaries can go to the country. So, many missionaries either got a different mission or left at a different time. In my mission, out of 10 missionaries, 3 had to spend another month in the MTC before they could enter the country. It could be the same with you. Since you are not in the MTC, you may not be given the reasons why. But it could be VISA problems and in order to try to avoid those problems, some missionaries are going at a different time or even having a different mission altogether. Quote
volgadon Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 Seems like they are having trouble again. My mission just had to close several cities because of a missionary shortage. Anyway, the Kiev mission is great. I have many friends there. My first AP is a bishop! Quote
Cra-Z Posted July 28, 2009 Author Report Posted July 28, 2009 I'm pretty sure you didn't say where you served. Quote
volgadon Posted July 28, 2009 Report Posted July 28, 2009 Didn't I? The Russia Rostov mission, it is in the south and borders on Ukraine. Quote
robcaldwell Posted August 22, 2009 Report Posted August 22, 2009 I was just in Russia for work and met with my CES missionary friends. They told me all about the visa issue and how just local missionaries are getting called now... I served in the Kiev mission. Wonderful place and there are so many things I love about Ukraine compared to Russia. Good luck! Quote
namastic4488 Posted August 31, 2009 Posted August 31, 2009 · Hidden Hidden Well I have one more way for you to continue your mission work :). I am Christian and am very naieve to your religon. Even though I have sat through your sermons I still feel like I didn't get the "gem," part of it. I'm doing a research paper and would love to have an interview with you some how maybe through email or maybe you could teach me a new way on here. I promise to try not to be bias .... but I do have a few tough questions I do have to admitt. Lets face it when it comes to religon it is a BIG deal....or else you wouldn't have served two years being a missionary right? thank you and God Bless,Mama Moni
allredcon Posted September 6, 2009 Posted September 6, 2009 · Hidden Hidden I would love russia. Here's to hoping. ha
