NeuroTypical
It's an immigrant issue, because when folks travel distances to new groups of people, they bring new stuff with them, and are more suseptible to old stuff. It ain't a 'bash immigrants' thing, it's a "LM always gets sick when he visits his relatives in another state" thing. LM
ADoyle90815
The 1918 flu started out as mild in the spring, but became deadly in the fall and winter. I heard that some in the missionary training center have been quarantined because of swine flu, maybe it would be a good idea to shut that place down temporarily so it could be completely scrubbed down. That has been done with schools where students showed symptoms, and there haven't been any more cases. Maybe those who aren't affected could be moved somewhere else not too far from that place while it's being cleaned, so that they can continue with their training. Elphaba
It's an immigrant issue, because when folks travel distances to new groups of people, they bring new stuff with them, and are more suseptible to old stuff.I don’t doubt illegal immigrants are bringing the swine flu to America, but that's not what Traveler said.Traveler blames illegal immigrants for new and resistant strains of virus and bacteria, without including the millions of Americans who are at fault as well.First, there is no treatment that kills a flu virus. The treatments only suppress the symptoms and make the patient feel better sooner. So blaming an illegal immigrant for something like swine flu because the person didn’t finish treatment, is absurd. The person is still contagious for the first five days upon onset regardless of whether he is taking the treatment or not, and regardless of whether he is an illegal immigrant, or not.Second, antibiotics do kill bacteria, and it is true that people taking them often has resulted in resistant strains. But it certainly is not only the illegal immigrants’ fault. Tens of millions of Americans do the same thing, and are just as culpable as the immigrants. In fact, even if there were no illegal Americans in the country, I feel confident we would still have new and resistant virus and bacterial strains.Given Traveler’s wont to blame all of the ills of society on immigrants, of course he doesn’t mention everyone else’s culpability. In fact, if he had left out “illegal immigrants” altogether, his comment would then have been correct.Elphaba
