I'm talking about cited instances of a CD being labeled that it could not be copied, without allowing for the lawful purchaser of same to copy to cassette for that purchaser's legitimate personal use.

Also, what about taping music off radio or taping TV shows? Both of those have been claimed to be copyright violations ("piracy") but have been held to be "fair use" if money were not involved.

The RIAA has gone so far overboard I'm deeply suspicious of any "piracy" claims, since they've poisoned that well. What will they think of next, you buy the CD/DVD/whatever media, then have to pay the RIAA for each time you use it?
