Kidnapped woman hidden in CA backyard for 18 years

PLACERVILLE, Calif. (AP) - A girl snatched on her way to school was hidden for nearly two decades behind a series of fences, sheds and tents, even giving birth to her suspected abductor's children in the suburban backyard compound less than 200 miles from her childhood home.

Even sadder is after kidnapping her the guy was later caught, tried and convicted of raping a woman and served time in prison and his wife kept the girl and her babies captive while he did time. She is just as guilty.

Does anyone else think of Elizabeth Smart when they read about this poor woman?

I had a good talk with my daughter today about what would happen if anything like this ever happened to her, especially telling her I would never ever stop looking for her and loving her no matter what. I also told her she would need to watch for opportunities to go ninja and escape or ask for help from strangers. That's the part that just kills me, she had opportunities just like Ms. Smart to escape, and was probably so terrified and/or brainwashed she couldn't take advantage of them.

I would like to know why the authorities did not follow through on their job. One report I read said a sheriff's deputy responded to a call in 2006 that there were children living and playing in his backyard. The deputy talked to him for 1/2 hour on his porch, but never even bothered to look in the yard. This guy is a convicted sex offender and these guys were all giving him the benefit of the doubt, not even checking if a report may be true.

I live very close to the city this happened in so I've read up on it. Absolutely sick.

Imagine watching your daughter being snatched away in a car and being able to do nothing to stop it?

I can only imagine the terror and sickness Jaycee's parents endured... and all because of Philip Garrido and his wife.

IMHO, they both should be executed ASAP.
