Missing him...

Someone said of President Hinckley:

"The world is a better place because he lived here."

What a great epitaf.

I showed the video of his in Sunday School today where the 3 young men rescued nearly all the Matin and Willy handcart companies by carrying them over a frozen river one by one.

Here is another wonderful video of his for you to enjoy.

I'm missing him today.

President Gordon Bitner Hinckley was definitely one of the Lord's CHOICEST servants. He was without a doubt, a GIANT among men. Though many of us never had the opportunity to meet him personally, I believe that it is safe to say, that none of us can deny that our lives were not touched and made a little better having been taught and counseled by this Prophet of the Lord. I still love to read his words and listen to his powerful messages.

If you have not seen it as of yet, I highly recommend the video "Gordon B. Hinckley: A Giant Among Men".

Even as an ex-member, I miss President Hinckley. He was absolutely my favorite prophet, because he was committed to inclusiveness, regardless of what religion you belonged to.

I doubt he would have felt the same for atheists, but I don't think that's important. I believe that if we were to meet face to face, he would greet me with genuine sincerity.

I don't know Elph. I feel he had great love for everyone...even atheists.

I have no doubt you're right.

I remember watching conference with my mother one day, and strongly disagreeing with some of the speakers to the point I was irritated. Then, President Hinckley spoke, and my mood changed, because his words resonated with me.

He urged the members to get to know their neighbors, not to be a missionary necessarily, but because they were worthy of your time, and vice versa. He understood that everyone had something to offer. IMO, and only based on a few anecdotes, I've seen members who did not understand this, and even scofffed at it.

I'm not saying it was every member I knew; far from it. But there were some, and my point is, I think after listening to President Hinckley talk about connecting with non-members so often, it finally sank in to those who didn't understand it.

Of course, President Hinckley also explained that the Church would add to these people's knowledge about God and eternal principles, etc., but he always urged the members to do so with respect.

Most of all he was kind, something I don't see very much of in life. So, when I think of him, and I have often since his death, my fondest memory is of how kind he was.

I do ramble on, don't I? :P
