The Bretheren have taught we are to avoid the appearance of evil. Beards do appear evil to many. One look through the First Presidency and Quorom of the 12 reveals none of these inspired and wonderful leaders wear any kind of facial hair. This is the standard LDS men must follow.

Or simply

Charles Manson = Facial Hair

Thomas S. Monson, Prophet, seer, revelator, the man whose example we should all follow = Zero Facial Hair

Thank You.

Well, by that statement then, you called just about every prophet and apostle in the LDS church up until the 1920's as appearing to be "evil" looking. You may want to rethink that one.

No sir, the standard in those days were different from today. In those days beards were acceptable. In these times they are not. Just as in Jesus time beards were normal.

When was the last time a President of the United States had a beard? About the same time as the last time a Prophet did. Times have changed my good Brother.

Thank You.

Further, the standard at The Lord's University is the same, facial hair is not permitted.

When a friend of mine was called to serve in the Bishopric, he was asked to shave his beard. As a humble servant of The Lord his response was in line with the teachings of our Prophets and he complied. he will be blessed and so will all Priesthood holders who follow today's example from our beloved and most wonderful Prophet, Thomas S. Monson.

Thank You.

Additionally, if you are a worthy Priesthood holder, I trust you are wearing a white shirt and tie to church each Sunday. I testify of the blessings that shall come when we follow the example of The Lords Prophet.

Thank You.

I'm with UtahRulzz, I shaved my beard when they said that you were not allowed to work in the temple with a beard. I realized that I had taken on the appearance of evil. Now I always shave and wear a crisp white shirt as much as possible. I use our inspired leaders as my role model. None of them have facial hair, you won't catch them wearing levis or plaid shirts. I can't imagine any of them wearing shorts. It is high time we just follow the brethren! Blessings willl follow.

While I also agree that facial hair is "discouraged" in the church, I know many worthy priesthood holders who have facial hair, including our wonderful Home Teacher (shaved head, small beard). He has never been asked to shave his beard off, and he's gone to the temple for years with it. We have several men in our ward with facial hair, all good priesthood holders who attend the temple and hold callings in the church.

I don't know anyone who thinks of facial hair as "evil". A great many good, kind, decent men all over the world wear facial hair, so if anyone is going to judge someone as "evil" or even as appearing "evil" just because they wear facial hair, they might want to check for that beam in their own eye first.

Well, none of us are perfect MormonMama. Some of us struggle with drinking drinks with Caffeine (I'm ashamed to admit I love my Soda Pop.) some struggle with facial hair or pornography, we all have weaknesses.

Thank You.

My hubby has a beard...he's the kindest, most wonderful man you will ever meet.

All shapes and sizes Sister. We all have our own individual things we are working through. Good for you! Kindnest is such an important quality in a spouse. We should all strive to find someone who is kind when we are looking for an eternal companion.

Thank You.

Well I used to think that facial hair was not evil too. I used to have a full beard and justified having one as just a question of hairstyle. But when the brethren said no facial hair among temple workers I just felt the spirit tell me that it was time to quit rationalizing and I needed to get in line with the brethren.

You can justify it all you want, but I don't think that the Lord wears a beard any more. Times have changed.

I admire your faith Brother! You are an inspiration to my testimony in The Lord's work!

I have always tried to follow policy. Came home from my mission, always kept my face clean shaven, hair short, wore a white shirt, conservative tie. Suit to church on Sunday.

But I by nature am conservative. I judge not and find it laughable those who have to get up in church and make a big thing about being individuals and wearing a beard, colored shirt, etc. If that is what they want to do then let them have at it.

As I recall it is not one of the questions on the afore mentioned temple recommend interview.

I prefer to see the sacrament passed by young men in long sleeve white shirts that are buttoned up and not with the sleeves rolled up as if it were a casual event. Since I work with the Deacons I can mention it to them. No one is kicked out of Deacon's quorum because of it.

Keep the commandments. Follow policy, if you are comfortable with it, if not don't but don't expect to be able to fully participate. As mentioned earlier must be clean shaven to officiate in the temple.

I have seen the letter, talking about facial hair, that you are not to have facial hair if officiating in the temple. Policy not doctrine.

That may be true, brother, but it is a slippery slope when we start to say something is okay when it is out of line with church policy. The brethren, I am sure, do a lot of fasting and praying about these things. These policies are not arrived at over night.

I truly doubt that the Lord has a beard. I know you might mock me for saying that, but think about it, would the Lord violate his own temple policy?

Of course not.

As for me, I just don't want to get in the gray area. If I don't make it to the celestial kingdom because of some stupid little thing like facial hair, or R rated movies, or caffeine in my sodal pop, it will be my fault. I don't want to run that risk.

If you don't make it to the celestial kingdom, you can rest assured that it WON'T be because of soda pop or facial hair.

During the winter months I sometimes have a neatly trimmed goatee.....so does the EQP and the HP group leader has a full beard.

Well in my ward none of the men have facial hair except for those who are inactive. Maybe your ward is different. I can't imagine our Bishop or SP calling a HP group leader or EQP with a full beard. It just seems to me you want people in there who could be temple workers.

One of the members of our Stake Presidency was required to shave his mustache before he was ordained. He looks funny without it, but I'm sure he feels more spiritual and in tune with the Lord now that he is in line with policy.

Our former EQP had a full beard....shaved it recently to be a Temple worker. Our new EQP is the SP's son. I feel pretty Spiritual with my rebellious winter whiskers.
