talisyn Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 I don't need advice about porn or addictions or unlawful intimate encounters...Apparently I'm not that exciting I got a day shift job at the plant, doing the same thing I do now but without the shift differential lol. I need advice on how to go from working 12 hr nights for almost 2 years to getting up at 5am and going to work 12 hr days. I have my night shift routine down. I take snackage like crackers (mmm goldfish) and 1 protein filled meal and some bottles of milk and if it's a really rough night a few cherry cokes. Ok, a lot of cherry cokes. But I am fairly certain I won't need as much sugar and caffeine on days. Anyone have any advice? Quote
lost87 Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 i would take about a week (at least) off bfore you begin the new shift schedule and take the time to let your body adjust to the change... day 1-stay up all night like you would for your previous night shifts and then stay awake all day the following day...no naps (its going to be rough) that night you'll be able to sleep despite the change in schedule because you'll be so tired...from here on out keep the schedule the same...go to bed at the same time each night and wake up the same time each morning. the first couple days will be pretty much terrible, but by day 3 you should be just fine and adjusted to normal life again Quote
beefche Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 I think lost's advice is good if you can off a week. If not, then the only thing I think would work is just stick to your schedule and do not take naps! The days off should have normal schedules without naps as well. Your body will need time to adjust and just doing your normal routine will adjust your body eventually. Kind of like jet lag. Jet lag doesn't mean you get to sleep whenever you want--you carry on a normal routine and your body will adjust. Good luck (and I find old-fashioned Mountain Dew works better than Cherry Coke! --but I'm a Pepsi drinker vs. a Coke drinker). Quote
Guest Alana Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Just make sure you go to bed when you need to and don't let yourself take naps that you know will make it hard to go to bed when you are supposed to. I worked nights for years, and the first week was hard, but then I was used to it. WHen I stopped working nights the transition to day time was a lot easier... Quote
Bini Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 I used to flip flop between noct shifts and day shifts - hated it. Good advice from above though. The first few shifts may be tough but it shouldn't take you too awfully long to readjust to your new schedule. Quote
talisyn Posted September 26, 2009 Author Report Posted September 26, 2009 Thanks for the advice. I seem to have lost any ability to not sleep during the daytime lol. I hope it works out >< Quote
