How to receive answers from HF?

Tonight Wilcox is giving a lecture on receiving answers from God using the life of Joseph Smith. They state "This is the great theme of Joseph Smith's life and perhaps more important than any specific revelation he received."

Solemn prayers maybe answered by direct or indirect by various means from GOD. It could be a first-hand witness, as in the case of Joseph Smith, dreams, as with Joseph of old, to a confirmation made by the touch of the Holy Ghost. We still have those, assigned by the Godhead, called Ministering Spirits who may come to answer a unique prayer or instruct in those who have special missions.

Others may hear a voice, sounds of a thunderous waves crashing on a beach, for others a simple warm and fuzzy feelings given by the Spirit. Personally, for me, a daily significance of events, would receive an overwhelming amorous electrical type feeling by the HG. It is hard to explain here in writing but understandable when it does occurs. This is something, which cannot be duplicated by the adversary. Though, the down fall, you loose physical energy when ever a member of Godhead either appears by vision, voice, or touch.

Now what is or was a strange occurrence in receiving personal revelation from GOD, one night in 2005, I was awoken by a simple nudge who I thought was my beloved companion. However, she was not in bed with me and the television was on what I thought was TLC channel. What was being displayed was historical events from current 2005 to 2012. I looked and didn’t feel anything was important but considered it one of those shows of prophetic type shows normally airs on these types of channels. I fell back to sleep when I was nudge again by unknown presence. I was awoken to the same showing on the T.V. I thought at that point I was dreaming a dream [refer to Lehi’s comment]. So I didn’t pay attention on finishing watching it. I fell back to sleep when for the third time, I was awoken again and found this same show was still airing. Ok! I thought to myself. This maybe repeating itself as some late night shows do but I managed to watch it to the end but failed the middle portions. After what I thought was the end, I fell back to sleep only hour later, the alarm clock chimed. This pressed upon my mind as to what was the show that was aired all night since going to bed until hour prior to my alarm clock chimed. I did a search on the DVR TV guide and found no such showing. Ok! I thought again, this was really strange. Well, believe or not, I didn’t think about it until I distinctly remember a Hurricane, not one but two of them, made land fall in New Orleans and was aired on the local new channels. It was the same one I managed to watch on the T.V.. Well, you get the picture that GOD uses various means to communicate answers to us. But, what I failed on this one, we need always be ready in listening, watching, and never make assumption it is always by regular means.

Ok this is great as to ways HF communicates to his children. For me personally most of the time it's an impression that comes to my mind or it's answered through another person/persons and events leading up to the help and prayed for. Say for example I pray for help that a child to be touched and brought closer to HF or even brought back unto the fold after being lost and it's others in their lives and events that bring them back.

Question, How does one live and prepare as to be able to receive answers? What does it take? Faith and action of course but is it that easy?

This simple key is called ‘ATTUNEMENT.’ How do we arrive at this stage of this finite process? It is done through ‘GRATITUDE’, ‘OBEDIENCE,’ and surrendering our ‘WILL’ to the FATHER. Every living moment of our lives is like a spiritual tuning knob. Some days it is adjusted to the right channel in order to listen with great clarity. Other days, through unrighteous acts, evil thoughts, negativity, or not paying heed to our divine Creator with giving gratitude when it is due. Simply put, our spiritual fine-tuning knob is not properly aligned with the appropriate channel. It maybe fuzzy - it maybe slightly out of tune and noisy in order to receive a reception - or it maybe completely out of range and hearing nothing at all but static.

Our daily lives is our measurement on what is received…

Yes this is where the examples of the prophets fit, expressly Joseph Smith processes to reach the level he did. But I guess it's the same for all. Would just help I think. Those who really want it attain it. If find it interesting the say that perhaps even more important than the revelations Joseph Smith received was his ability to revive answers. (This is key to us all)!!

One key I think is steadiness. We can not expect HF to help us, guide us if were all gung ho and doing everything possible for a week, of a month and so on and then back to listening to rap music, watching R rated movies and just going about the ways of the world. Then back to attending the temple everyday for two weeks and then back to really not even being worthy to go and so on. We must be steady, moving upward ever so slightly all the time. Yes will dip but still steadiness brings answers because when were up and down like a yo yo HF does not want to throw pearls out to one who in a week will be back to being a swine.

My my motto is Puny preparation equals Puny revelation or in other words revelation is based on the laws of revelation and you received according your willingness to believe and obey. Heavenly Father doesn't give more revelation most of time until we are living the revelation we have are recieved. The spirit of the Lord is postive and enlightens our minds that's why you read things did I not speak peace to your soul ,or I will tell you in your minds and in your hearts or my mind was filled with unspeakable joy and my desire was to do good continually, Some times its a good idea to ask Heavenly Father how he communcates with you

What was it that got Joseph Smith to the grove? One thing that comes to my mind is a great desire to know truth. Another would be he went the extra mile, like he had never prayed vocally before entering the grove. I think Wilcox will pin point some things the Joseph Smith did throughout his life.

Correct...it was the desire and faith/hope for an answer; most of which was taught by his mother. As I don't think he was even ready to receive such in the manner it was given. :)

In viewing your posted list, one that really strikes accord with me in my own life in receiving answers, being 'PERISTENT' in asking. I do follow this principle in asking. Also, being persistent reminds me of Abraham who sought the knowledge of the deluge prophets – especially the prophet Enoch. Being persistent and having the desire of such, help him to witness many truths.
