  1. Welcome, A lot of good folks here.
  2. The last time I checked the family was the smallest unit in the CHURCH and the most important. The church is here to support the family. How you you served will be more important, then what position you held. HEAVENLY FATHER LOVES PEOPLE NOT POSITION HOLDERS.
  3. Does anyone know if Stake Presidents make recommendations on what type of mission someone should serve?
  4. An elders quorum pinewood derby is idea that comes to mind, I know we are supposed to have a spiritual theme or reason for socials I know of a lot of quorums have had success with this one. I guess building quorum unity would the reason.
  5. yes perfect practice makes perfect Doesn't the D&C say if your prepared you shall not fear Preparation is the key factor of success. I think we can tell if someone has put the effort into honestly seeking the will of the lord on a subject and those who don't To me it's not to hard discern. I think they know in there hearts they not fooling anyone especially the lord.
  6. Well folks we have had guidelines about sacrament meetings talks for years and teacher development classes and instruction. The key factor of success in both these area is in the preparation. " puny preparation equals puny revelation "
  7. Well I kinda have a different point of view I have a son severing in the California Long Beach Mission He believes that opposition to the church has been helping the missionary work in his area. It's our legacy that when faced with opposition the church pulls together and becomes that much stronger. This very well may be the chance we need to be heard To stand for truth and protect our families In way that can influence thousands for good
  8. Well I got to admit that I love good sacrament meeting talks and great music, and do agree that they increase sacrament attendance. Notwithstanding the fact they help, we need to ensure that the really reason for sacrament meeting is to take the sacrament and renew our covenants. Sacrament meeting being the only time and place we can do that. (we can't even renew our covenants in the temple) Having personally sat on the stand for years, I am very aware of the casual and sometimes ill reverent way some folks treat the sacrament. Personally I think until begin to take the sacrament seriously our sacrament meetings will be lacking attendance
  9. The fact that the brethren have to tell us to setpart Monday night for family home evening and limit "church services" to the three hour block. Is just the point they are trying make. The members don't think that the church and the family are the same thing, Notwithstanding the fact that we have been told for years that the family is the smallest unit of the "Church " The family is the only thing that will last thru time and eternity.
  10. Well I can tell you that I learned this thru sad experience. I saw the light when my wife said if I didn't make changes in my " Church Duties and responsibilities" she was going to leave me. My Stake President released me right away, And then took me to the wood shed for a attitude adjustment.
  11. The family is the church, there's no separation. The choice is never church or family. God, Heavenly Father comes first. If we are putting him first he will tell us what comes second. The important thing is that we are really seeking the Lords will in the things we do. because if we don't put God First, it won't matter what we put second,
  12. I think you guys are right are about a the asking with real intent, meaning that you want to be forgiven of your sins and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ by those with the proper authority and receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost. Some folks don't want the Church to be true because then they will have to change their lives, others doubt their ability to be true to the Church and their intent falters.
  13. Yes, You do need to talk with your Bishop by talking with him He'll know that that your repentance is complete and ease any doubt's you may have. This way you will know for sure that you are in full fellowship with the saint's
  14. Yes, There are differences in prophets, Joseph Smith was a prophets prophet. Depending on the mission they are called to. Reading the scriptures show's us the many differences in the lives of individual prophets. I hope this doesn't lessen your belief in our modern prophets. I thank Heavenly Father for the fact me have a prophet on the earth to help guide us home.
  15. What our non-LDS friends, really don't understand about members of the LDS church is that we believe in revelation through the Lords prophets. When the Lord commands that it's time to do this or that, then it's time. This is his church, not mine or even the prophets. If you believe that Joseph Smith saw God the Father and his son Jesus Christ and that he translated the Book of Mormon the way he said he did. Then he can be trusted with the rest. The real question to me is Joseph Smith the Lords Prophet? and my answer is yes So in my view he can be trusted on these other matters
  16. There's a lot of good people here I think you'll feel right at home
  17. There are times in my live that callings have come to me , that because of my work schedule or a job change I was unable to fill the calling the way that it needed to be. I made the bishop aware of this and was released, If this calling taking away from your callings of a Wife and a mother( and they are callings) I would level with my bishop about this. And please remember the family is the smallest unit of the church. Surely your kids are equally to a Sunday school lesson, family service is always church service. I hope this helps
  18. Wow I feel your pain, my ward is 53% in active and we all have families that are inactive, nothing we do has been successful. I can tell you that you don't have to answer the temple interview question with a yes, And still get a recommend I answer I try to some of the questions and have always gotten a recommend. Most bishops let you judge yourself and rarely refuse a recommend for sins of omission. I wouldn't want to go to the temple unworthily personally, and heap more sin upon my head if I was one of these guys.
  19. You have to be very careful with of stories of past sins or transgressions, You don't want to send the message that it's ok to sin now and repent later, and some members tend live in there past sins refusing to forgive themselves or those who have sinned against them. However we do find Alma and Alma younger in the Book of Mormon retelling there stories to the folks they were teaching the gospel to, Again another reason to let the spirit be your guide
  20. It seems to me that there are plenty of scriptures that say we will be judged. I don't seem to remember reading anywhere that the scriptures we be judged, and of course things of spirit can only be discerned by the spirit otherwise they are just words on a page. The spirit is key that unlocks the scriptures to us.
  21. I don't have my handbook with me, But I'm pretty sure the Bishop must approve priesthood holders blessing the sacrament outside sacrament meeting. I know In my ward we take the sacrament to members who are ill or cannot come to church for health reasons every Sunday. And we had to get approval from our current bishop to do so.
  22. My view is allot of the heathen nations and the folks who never got a chance to accept the gospel here in this life maybe in a better postion to receive the celestial kingdom than many saints. ( my self included) I'm just glad that the Savior is the judge and not me. And I also believe most Latter day Saints know in there hearts if they are living a celestial life now or not. It's the same sprit that we posess now we will posess there. Thank heaven for chance to repent!
