Traveler Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 What is the difference between a "sign" from G-d and a revelation from G-d? The Traveler Quote
pam Posted October 21, 2009 Report Posted October 21, 2009 Signs are things that can show the power of God. They identify events. They can be shown to anyone. Revelation is a communication from God to His children. God speaks through his Prophets who are the only ones who can receive revelation for the Church. Quote

TheAngelPalmoni Posted October 22, 2009 Report Posted October 22, 2009 Sign, Token, Omen... What should I do with my life as I open a 1000 page book to the page that talks about being a teacher. Then in I gospel studies I learned about the importance of being a teacher. Then I take an aptitude test and it says I should be a teacher. These could all be signs from G-D, but then I pray what do you want me to do with my life? Where would I do the most good? And I get the greatest feeling about teaching... this is revelation. I don't know something like that.... Quote

They are often miraculous. They identify and announce great events, such as the Savior's birth, death, and Second Coming. They remind the children of God of covenants the Lord has made with them. Signs may also bear witness of a divine calling or indicate the Lord's disapproval. The word sign is also used in scripture to denote a memorial of an event that is to be remembered (see Exodus 13:1–10). Revelation is communication from God to His children. This guidance comes through various channels according to the needs and circumstances of individuals, families, and the Church as a whole. When the Lord reveals His will to the Church, He speaks through His prophet. Prophets are the only people who can receive revelation for the Church, but they are not the only people who can receive revelation. According to our faithfulness, we can receive revelation to help us with our specific personal needs, responsibilities, and questions and to help us strengthen our testimony. joofob Posted October 26, 2009 Report Posted October 26, 2009 Pam, I liked your second response to clarify signs and revelation. Signs are indeed evidence and proofs many seek from God for both righteous and evil purposes. God will show signs for all as a demonstration and evidence to the righteous and wicked that he is Lord. The righteous seek after signs foretold in prophecy and by revelation with humility and faith. The wicked seek signs of the power of God to prove he does not exist. They do not seek signs to strengthen faith nor to know the will of God. They challenge God and his authority and demand signs because they do not believe he will give one. Revelation is communication from God to man and comes in many forms. Surprisingly revelation can even come to the wicked such as Alma and Saul of Tarsus. Revelation is also given as a means to teach and reveal the will of God to man. In most cases God reveals his will to the humble and righteous, but has also revealed his will and rebuked the wicked through revelation. Signs are more appropriately associated with events of power, demonstration, and miracles. They are typically physical things, such as healing the sick, raising the dead, commanding the elements etc. They are the measuring rod the prideful use to determine if God exists. Revelation is more appropriately associated with spiritual witnesses and communications. It is almost always discerned and understood with the spiritual eyes and senses and the ungodly mock and scorn such things. What are your thoughts Traveler? Quote
