SeattleTruthSeeker Posted January 25, 2010 Author Report Posted January 25, 2010 I think its sometimes wise to know what is being said about you, that way you are prepared. Like knowing when you go to a party you are not going to have sex and disappear into a bedroom with nearest avaliablle sex objectI concur also. To me, it is important as to what is being said about you, understand why it is being said, and how to properly respond if what is being said is deceptive and false. Quote

Snow Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 I don't say anyones responses are contensious. What I'm saying is that quotes from anti sites leaves any Gospel loving truth preserving member the need to defend and explain the CORRECT wording of the scripture, the CORRECT meaning of misrepresented doctrin, the true feelings of members not lies someone has told to keep others from finding these blessings. If you'll look now, most of the replys has been an earnest explanation of how those quotes ARE NOT how they feel. They explain how they ARE NOT TRUE. Reading the quotes from anti sites raises the anxiety of members to the point they have to respond and tell what the truth is. It puts members on the defensive having to explain how they don't feel. There are sites galore with untruths and lies about the Gospel. All of us know they are there. I suggest if anyone wants to defend these they can go there, not bring the lies to our forum.Have you considered putting your fingers in your ears or perhaps holding your breath until you turn blue? ferretrunner Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 I actually found this thread helpful. In responding to the OP, I had to look at some of the issues that were challenging my faith and holding me back from being active in the Church. We all know there's anti- writings all over the place. Sometimes talking about them can be a spiritual process, as it can call us to a deeper reflection of our own beliefs. There's nothing wrong with being challenged. I wish I had gained the peace and knowledge I have now eariler. Quote
wltpc Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 As they say, the great cleansing will come from within. Apostosy is 3 weeks away. I remeber when a call came to me from a sister that her husband had died. I went to see her right away. She said he was a member and they had been married 50 some odd years. I said (being brand new) that I didn't even realize she was married let alone to a member. As I visited with her, I said was he ever active. She said "oh yes, very much so, he was endowed, he had many callings and so forth". I asked her what happened. The answer was so simple it blew me away. She said, "well one Sunday he was sick, then the next Sunday he had to work, and then the next one they had car problems, and he never came back." We planned and I conducted his funeral with the thought that any of us are only 3 weeks away from complete inactivity and even apostasy. Very sobering. So these billboards are going to attract those who are on the fence, whose marriages are sufferring, whose own testimonies are wavering, and who feel overwhelmed from life. We need to reach out as home and visiting teachers to these people before they call the # on the billboard. If they do, we need to especially redouble our efforts because they will be gone in a few days. What a scary thought. Just my .02 worth. Quote

Carl62 Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 (edited) Apostosy is 3 weeks away. As I visited with her, I said was he ever active. She said, "well one Sunday he was sick, then the next Sunday he had to work, and then the next one they had car problems, and he never came back." We planned and I conducted his funeral with the thought that any of us are only 3 weeks away from complete inactivity and even apostasy. Very sobering. LOL. I kinda have to laugh at this because, according to your logic, you've just about gone and thrown at least 90% of our entire ward right under the apostasy bus. During the week of Christmas, church was cancelled because of the over 20+ inches of snow that the east coast got. The second week, church was cancelled again because of serious ice conditions and the third week there was church but again, because of more severe ice conditions, only about 10-15% of the church showed up. So did the other 80-90% of active members get the 'three strikes and there soon-to-be-apostates" boot? I take this in a tongue in cheek manner since I'm sure many of people in the church, including myself, have had to miss three (or even more) weeks in a row due to extenuating circumstances and still decided to remain active in the church. While I think there could possibly be some merit to it, if there isn't much of a testimony from the person to begin with, I think most active members testimonies are strong enough that they could survive three weeks and still maintain their steadfast belief in the church without it wavering in the least. MichaelPAGuy Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 A campaign against oppressed women in the church. As many women have said on here, Women can do just as much as men in the church. These groups are not looking at the big picture. Only their side of it. Quote

SeattleTruthSeeker Posted January 26, 2010 Author Report Posted January 26, 2010 A campaign against oppressed women in the church. As many women have said on here, Women can do just as much as men in the church. These groups are not looking at the big picture. Only their side of it.The problem is that much of these "oppressed" stories are coming from women who, after leaving Mormonism and becoming a Born Again Christian, are the ones who are assisting in this ministry. It all is geared toward Women. Women who are very vulnerable. Quote
