Only the opinions of current prophets are important to us.

From "Fourteen Fundamentals in Following the Prophet" by ELDER Ezra Taft Benson February 26, 1980:

Second: The living prophet is more vital to us than the standard works.

Third: The living prophet is more important to us than a dead prophet.

Wait a minute, do these fundamentals not apply anymore since the prophet that made them up isn't alive anymore? I'm so confused.

President Benson also stated that we should measure everything we read or hear from our leaders and others by the scriptures. His entire reign as prophet was based upon everyone reading the BofM.

I think you need to stop taking things out of context and get a look at the big picture.

What I like best about this topic has nothing to do with Bush. It is what Pat Robertson said:

"I think George Bush is going to win in a walk. I'm hearing from the Lord that it's going to be a blowout."

Not that God appeared to Pat in a vision and revealed it, or in answer to prayer, Pat was impressed that...

No, Pat represents that 'he's hearing from the Lord' like God was kinda thinking outloud, Pat was in the room, and from this observation of God's thinking process, you know, it's gonna be a blow out.
