If it is considered "poor" in English to use the words "ain't" and "y'all", then consider me to be "poor" in English and very comfortable with it.

[murmur]silly uppity rascals[/murmur]

And btw, I still say "oil" with an accent too, and my wife really likes my "twang". :cowboy:

Heh, am too. From birth to age 28 I lived in Mathis Texas, Waco Texas, San Antonio Texas, Austin Texas, Biloxi Mississippi, living most of my life in Waco Texas. I later moved from Austin Texas to Kingman Arizona when I was 26, living there until at age 28 when I moved to the Portland Oregon metro area, where I have been for the last 16 or 17 years.

And btw, Kalama Washington is only about 30 miles from the Portland area, where I still work and play. :cowboy:

Oh OK... my bad. Actually, when I sd you weren't from the south, I meant that you didn't live in the south... Because I remember you're from WA.

I'm in the South, too. Near hubby's folks. Don't like it, but I don't see us moving soon (if ever), so I'm learning to adapt and keep my mouth shut around the locals when I'm particularly unhappy. I really don't want my children to talk like their schoolteachers! Schoolteachers! Ain't-ing and y'all-ing and making pronoun errors that curl my hair. More than that, I don't like the climate here. Nor do I like the landscape (believe me, no picture of this area will ever end up on a calendar!). The people are nice. They are friendly and generally kind. I do believe the average person is more trustworthy here than where I grew up (northern CA). Sorry, I wonder off topic . . .

Have a safe move! We expect to hear all about your adventure when you get your computer plugged back in.

Sorry you don't like the South. By the way, not all Southerners have poor English! And obviously you aren't in NC if you don't think the landscape is attractive.

Hope you're getting adjusted, Prend!

Are you in NC? I did a lot of consulting out of Ashville - down the road not far from Bat Cave at a x-ray film manufacuring plant. Loved the area - would mountain bike every chance I got. Use to go to dinner (BBQ) with a Baptist minister and LDS Bishop (dentist) once in a while. Loved Carl Sandburg's place.

The returned missionary who first introduced me to some missionaries of the Church was born in Raleigh, NC, the place where "Mayberry" was filmed in the 60's. :)

Yes, I am in NC. I'm in Raleigh now (center of the state), but am from Boone which is in the mountains just down the road about an hour from Asheville. I love it the mountains, but there is not much to do there career-wise. My mom still lives there though so I get to visit often. I've also lived on the coast of NC, in Wilmington, and loved it there as well. I wouldn't want to live in any other state!

Are you talking about the Andy Griffith Show? If so, the show was based on Mt. Airy, NC, which is about 2 hours west of Raleigh. It's actually very close to my hometown. The Snappy Lunch restaurant where Barney and Andy ate lunch is still open. It's a great little town. However, the show was 'filmed' in CA.

Can't beat that show though, huh?
