It shouldn't. We use a different definition of 'Christian' than many other Christian denominations. For many, the fact the we reject the doctrine of the Trinity is sufficient reason to reject Mormonism as a Christian religion.

When different denominations are operating under different definitions of what qualifies as Christianity, it shouldn't surprise us at all if we don't fit someone else's definition.

I think the most basic element, that we believe in Christ as the Son of God and our Savior, is the defining element of Christianity. I accept that there are different flavors, but we all believe that one thing.

Just my opinion.

So, another way of phrasing what you're saying is not that you're annoyed that other denominations don't consider mormons to be Christians, but that other denominations don't accept the same definition of Christian as you (or mormonsim) does.

It wasn't hard to find a corroborating story

Church: Mormons can't lead scouts - Religion - Wire - TheSunNews.com

The media we can't trust seems to have gotten it right. The pastor of the church came right out and said that they were refused leadership positions because of their religion. I think you're being a tad over-jaded.

Yes, yes, now that we have two newspaper articles it becomes credible. The famous philosopher Fredrich Nietzsche once stated that if you want to create chaos in society, just give people a little bit of information or education. I am just amazed at how this discussion is going with accusations and so forth based on two newspaper articles. There are those who are attacking this Presbyterian church and other attacks members of the church. Just because the pastor is quoted as saying something does not mean other things were not stated. We do not even know the context of the pastors words.

You might want to simple learn more about the situation before making judgments in every which way. Who knows what is going on and despite Margin of Errors’s second newspaper article, I am sure there is much more information than the report of one or two newspapers. I think newspaper are good for general information – such as knowing if the war in Iraqi is still continuing – but using articles like these for such discussions seems to create disdain between religious groups.

I'm sorry, if you think that there's a problem with what's being reported, how does it make any sense to complain about it but not go looking for more information. It took me all of 7 seconds to find a second article about the events described. If you don't trust the information, go look for better information.

For instance, what's your source for "There are those who are attacking this Presbyterian church and other attacks members of the church?"

There's also, you know, the famous quote from -- what was it again? Oh yeah, the scriptures, that says "out of the mouth of two or three witnesses shall the truth be established."

Just to be ornery.

You know, you'd think after almost 200 years of existance, other Christain faiths would've already reconized our own members of the church as christians. I mean, we have a Bible, we believe in God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost (albiet in a different way), we have meetings every Sunday.

Basically, the artice summarizes my frustration on how we're judged by others.

I meant it the way I said it.

They are well within their rights to exclude whomever they wish from their leadership positions.

I presume their definition of Christianity comes from the Nicene Creed set. If that is the case then based on those qualifications of Christianity then Mormons would be excluded.

To be offended by this is a little silly honestly. I know tons of Mormons who don't consider FLDS or RLDS people Mormon, but they think Joseph Smith was a prophet and consider the Book of Mormon inspired works. So what makes them not Mormon? Because they don't follow the mainstream church?

Some LDS folk do the same thing as Trinitarian Christians do when it comes to excluding people.

Rachelle, I would consider them mormons also, but not members of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints.

To me, the definition of a Christian is anyone who follows the teachings of Jesus Christ and believes Him to be the Son of God. Similarly, a mormon is anyone who follows the teachings of Joseph Smith and believes he was a prophet of God, and that the Book of Mormon is also another Testament of Jesus Christ.
