Wingnut Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 Yeah, I've been seeing that photo for a couple of years now. Barf. I think I'd be ready to throw tomatoes at my own television set.
pam Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 Well then my apologies for a lame attempt at humor to try and lighten this thread up a bit. I only saw this for the first time last week.
FunkyTown Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 Hi Saintmichael,You'd most likely consider me on the left. There are several things she did as Governor of Alaska I applaud. She stood up to big business when she had to and voiced the concerns of her state in an effective way. However, I'm also terrified of her for a few reasons:1) When offered the shot at vice presidency, she abandoned her previous platform on oil in favor of Mccain's. Being pro-drilling is perfectly fine. Being pro-business is fine. Reversing your previously held ethical views in favor of shoring up Mccain is not. She then reversed her reversal during the BP scandal and accused Obama of being slow to respond due to being in bed with big oil.If you make an ethical stand, stand by your ethics.2) She's a political opportunist. Being conservative is one thing. Fanning the fires of hate that are currently balkanizing the US is not. Look at your own words: You use 'Left' and 'Democrat' as a curse word. Is that indicative of you being willing to listen to reason given by those on the left?I should point that many of the best conservative ideals of today were embodied by one of the greatest Democrats of all time: JFK.I would also point out that one of the most progressive and liberal presidents of their day(In the real sense of the word. Not the way angry talk show hosts use it as a curse word) were Republicans: Abraham Lincoln and Eisenhower. The words Democrat and Liberal are not curse words, Saintmichael. Please don't use them as such in your posts. It really isn't helpful in forming any type of discussion and serves only as a handy brand you can wave about to try to dismiss anyone who says anything you disagree with.So Sarah Palin's to blame? Why are you on the Left so terrified of her?

Shhh...don't tell the bubble heads on the left who think she's a corporation stooge.1) When offered the shot at vice presidency, she abandoned her previous platform on oil in favor of Mccain's. She then reversed her reversal during the BP scandal and accused Obama of being slow to respond due to being in bed with big oil.I don't see any inconsistancy here. "Drill baby drill" has been a constant theme. When did she accuse Obama of being in cahoots with Oil? Obama was slow on the uptake because he's incompetent. If you make an ethical stand, stand by your ethics. If you're going to cite an abandonment of ethics, why not cite something substantial, such as the electoral fraud Palin perpetuated. The people of Alaska elected her for a 4 year term and she resigned. People didn't elect the Lieutenant Governor, they elected her. That to me is a glaring mark on her record more than anything.2) She's a political opportunist. Being conservative is one thing. Fanning the fires of hate that are currently balkanizing the US is not. Look at your own words: You use 'Left' and 'Democrat' as a curse word. Is that indicative of you being willing to listen to reason given by those on the left? And the Left doesn't polarize? Since when is the Left entitled to their convictions but the Right has to moderate? Moveon.org is scarier than anything Palin has ever done or said.I should point that many of the best conservative ideals of today were embodied by one of the greatest Democrats of all time: JFK. And while every Democrat wants to cite his example, it's also very convenient for them that he's dead and unable to repudiate what the Democrats have become today.I would also point out that one of the most progressive and liberal presidents of their day(In the real sense of the word. Not the way angry talk show hosts use it as a curse word) were Republicans: Abraham Lincoln and Eisenhower. Don't think for a moment that I approve of Lincoln because he had an R next to his name. Lincoln is the worst president in U.S. history and that by leaps and bounds. The only difference between Lincoln and Hitler is that Lincoln had kinder historians. The words Democrat and Liberal are not curse words, Saintmichael. Please don't use them as such in your posts. It really isn't helpful in forming any type of discussion and serves only as a handy brand you can wave about to try to dismiss anyone who says anything you disagree with.Use them as curse words? D******* and L****** would be using them as curse words. And I don't dismiss anything people have to say; I take the time to refute them deftly when they're wrong.
Saintmichaeldefendthem1 Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 Well then my apologies for a lame attempt at humor to try and lighten this thread up a bit. I only saw this for the first time last week. That's very sweet of you, Pam. I can always use a little levity to keep me from taking myself too seriously. It wasn't lame and you don't need to apologize.
FunkyTown Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 Shhh...don't tell the bubble heads on the left who think she's a corporation stooge.I don't see any inconsistancy here. "Drill baby drill" has been a constant theme. When did she accuse Obama of being in cahoots with Oil? Obama was slow on the uptake because he's incompetent.Palin: Obama in Bed With Big OilThere! This is where she accused Obama. And Palin, when discussing off-shore oil-drilling in her own nation, suggested that we should be cautious to begin with to avoid widescale environmental catastrophes. Until she got in bed with Mccain. If you're going to cite an abandonment of ethics, why not cite something substantial, such as the electoral fraud Palin perpetuated. The people of Alaska elected her for a 4 year term and she resigned. People didn't elect the Lieutenant Governor, they elected her. That to me is a glaring mark on her record more than anything.I'm cautious on that one. I don't know all the facts related to that. And the Left doesn't polarize? Since when is the Left entitled to their convictions but the Right has to moderate? Moveon.org is scarier than anything Palin has ever done or said.MSNBC is every bit as skewed as Fox is in the other direction. If you'll read my responses about MSNBC on here, I am just as likely to attack them. The difference? This is a mostly conservative website, so I will necessarily attack the failures of the Right because some other people are doing a bang-up job of attacking the failures of the Left. I should also point out that just because the extremists on the Left are being bullish doesn't mean the Right should resort to the same tactics. And while every Democrat wants to cite his example, it's also very convenient for them that he's dead and unable to repudiate what the Democrats have become today. In the last election, how many of the Republican candidates compared themselves to Reagan? I want to say all of them, but that's unfair. I only know four who did, including Mccain. Don't think for a moment that I approve of Lincoln because he had an R next to his name. Lincoln is the worst president in U.S. history and that by leaps and bounds. The only difference between Lincoln and Hitler is that Lincoln had kinder historians. That is an extreme stance on one of the most beloved Presidents of all time. And he didn't set up death camps based upon race, religion or creed. And Godwin's Law is invoked on yet another Internet discussion. Please don't throw out the Hitler comparison. It's unkind, untrue and unfair to history.Use them as curse words? D******* and L****** would be using them as curse words. And I don't dismiss anything people have to say; I take the time to refute them deftly when they're wrong.I respect that that is your intent. The way you say it, though, comes across with a lot of vitriol on the internet. It makes many of your points, which are often correct, sound more like rhetoric and loses its impact.
Guest Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 Should I mention that Funky is not American? So technically he can't be on the Left or Right of anything? Or, was I dreaming when I thought Funky was Canadian turned Brit or something... Oh my head... I'm so confused...

So technically he can't be on the Left or Right of anything?Or, was I dreaming when I thought Funky was Canadian turned Brit or something...Oh my head... I'm so confused...Well, you know..Nothing every happens in Canada, so they obsess on American politics. BTW, they told Americans that passing Obamacare was a bad idea, but if the Democrats weren't listening to Americans, why oh why would they listen to Canadians?
