slamjet Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 Speaking of tribes, does anyone have some good links or explanation about the tribes? What does it mean to be one or an other? What is the history behind each?I've been digging around lds.org and cannot find anything describing the different tribes and their missions. It would be so interesting to have that information. pam Posted January 23, 2011 Author Report Posted January 23, 2011 Speaking of tribes, does anyone have some good links or explanation about the tribes? What does it mean to be one or an other? What is the history behind each? When it comes to different tribal lineage from the same parents I just think of it as how some families with one kid that seems to show more of the trait from ancestors a few generations back than the other siblings. Kind of like how there are dominate and recessive genes and sometimes two recessives will combine to form a more uncommon trait. Like, maybe two parents are from the tribe of Ephraim but some where back there one of them had an ancestor who was Manasseh, and then they have a child who is from that tribe because that's the one who's gifts and strengths they've received. That was going to be my next question. What the missions of each of the tribes are. Quote
mapman Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 It is my opinion that most people are probably descended from all twelve sons of Jacob. This is almost statistically certain: http://tedlab.mit.edu/~dr/Papers/Rohde-MRCA-two.pdf If this is the case, then the patriarch is recieving revelation about which tribe the person should be adopted into based on what their life mission is. mapman Posted January 23, 2011 Report Posted January 23, 2011 As for the roles of the tribes, Jacob's blessings of his sons in Genesis 49 may be insightful. Quote
