ZSEdwardson Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 I have a talk sunday on my first visit to the temple, at it supposed to be 15 mins... Well, right now I am about 8 mins, Any good scripture, comments, and so on to talk about? I need some fluff Quote
Gwen Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 how long ago was your first visit to the temple? to me that seems more like a share your testimony assignment not a full talk in which 8 min is enough. i guess you could fill 15 min if you talked about how you prepared as well, or if there was something that stood out you would do different if you were doing it over, etc.... it's hard to suggest scriptures and things without really knowing what direction you took with the 8 min you already have. Gwen Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 i might would go back to the beginning and talk about the preparing to go to the temple some. have you talked about your proxy-baptism trip? was there anything about that that impressed you or prepared you for your own endowment trip. that might be something you could touch on for the youth or those that can't go for their own endowment yet. i know adults doing baptisms is often over looked. also getting new members to go in the first yr is over looked. everyone focuses on prep for the endowment in a yr. my experience here is the converts we took to do baptisms were more likely to make it for their endowments, the ones we didn't were more likely to drop that goal. maybe pull some info from your temple prep book to talk on.... things that impressed you or were helpful for when you got there? ZSEdwardson Posted March 18, 2011 Author Report Posted March 18, 2011 Due to bad weather - I went to the temple without any offical Prepping, however I had done a lot of research so when they went down the list of things, I had only one question or two. So I don't have a book. However, I am going to talk about how a old college friend ended up being not only the person baptizing me , but also the one who was my escort in the temple, and how you never know when your being a member missionary. Think that should get me to 15 mins. Quote
Blackmarch Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 (edited) I have a talk sunday on my first visit to the temple, at it supposed to be 15 mins...Well, right now I am about 8 mins,Any good scripture, comments, and so on to talk about? I need some fluff Pray hard, study the scripture a lot. (you may want to look up in the topical guide or dictionary about the Tabernacle, temple, House of the Lord, Knowledge, Exaltation, Exaltation of Man).Come up with an outline with the main points you'd like to share, find scriptures to go with it, use experiences that illustrate your point.study more, pray even harder, practice your outline.repeat. Keep the Lord in your thoughts consciously. One suggestion I've heard and have used once or twice is to leave the notes or outline behind in your seat when you go up to give your talk. (trust me that humbles ya) Edited March 18, 2011 by Blackmarch Quote
