Lost_one Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 As the title says: How has your knowledge of the Resurrection helped you? This is a question from Gospel Principles Chapter 12: The Atonement. I wasn't really sure how to answer this question, so I thought I would ask here and see what you guys had to say about it. Thanks Quote
slamjet Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 As an addict, I wrote a poem about it. But I don't think it would fit in a post, and I'm paranoid about someone on the internet snaking it and claiming it as theirs. In short, it's not so much the Resurrection, but grabbing hold of the Atonement that has made all the difference in the world. Quote
Dravin Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 (edited) Well the resurrection means all will be reunited with their body, which is a prerequisite for exaltation and a fullness of joy, so in that sense it connects pieces of the puzzle of what the future has in store. It's also helpful in the, "We'll see them again" comfort of someone you care for passing away, but in all honesty only seeing them in spirit would be a comfort. I must confess it's hard for me to appreciate the fact that we'll all be resurrected again outside of an intellectual aspect. Like the aforementioned comfort about those who have passed on, knowing you'll see them again in the Spirit world would also be a comfort. I think the problem lies in that, not being cognizant of what it's like to not have a body, it is hard to contemplate just how wonderful a blessing the resurrection is. If we're talking about the resurrection of Christ, well that's part of the bringing to pass the Atonement and so that leads into the broader question of how the Atonement, and your knowledge of it helps you, and that one is easier to grasp hold of. That hell is bad and being saved from it is good, and the power of the Atonement to allow change are easier to contemplate and/or experience. Edited May 1, 2011 by Dravin Quote
pam Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 I've known all my life that we will see our loved ones again because of it. It has so much more meaning now that I have lost my own father. I was chatting with a young cousin on facebook just a few minutes ago. She's in 8th grade. She mentioned she went and did baptisms for the dead today. I talked to her about how happy those people must be and how relieved they must be to finally have someone do this for them. There is so much about the atonement that makes things possible not just for those of us still living but also those who have already passed on. Quote
MrShorty Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 My knowledge of the resurrection helped me cope with the loss of my first born as a baby. Quote
