Guest Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 Turkey or turkey? Because the latter is just silly. :) Quote
beefche Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 Ok, so I'm confused. The article said it is definitely Phillip's tomb--the writings and archaelogical structure prove it is his. Yet, later in the article it said it is believed that Phillip died in this city. So, which is it? Either he did die/was bured here or they don't know for certain. <scratches head> Quote
Guest mysticmorini Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 I think they meant it was believed and now they know for sure. Quote

So the article is saying it's believed and it's paraphrasing the professor's statements that it is for certain. Much like how an article could talk about how Christians believe Jesus is the Christ and then paraphrase the Pope talking about how there can be no doubt that Jesus is the Christ. spamlds Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 Foxe's Book of Martyrs gives this info on Philip"Was born at Bethsaida, in Galilee and was first called by the name of 'disciple.' He labored diligently in Upper Asia, and suffered martyrdom at Heliopolis, in Phrygia. He was scourged, thrown into prison, and afterwards crucified, A.D. 54."FOX's Book of Martyrs Quote

In this case, Phillip died in East L.A. while on splits with one of the three Nephites. In sympathy for the Palestinian Saints, the Nephite arranged to have his body sent back across the 'pond' for proper burial. And there you have it. HJ Quote
