dahlia Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 I would have kept going, but I bet I would have died along the way. I have too many medical issues...I don't think I was supposed to laugh, but that is funny. If you have a lot of medical issues, you'd probably have died long before the trek. Just think about no antibiotics. Most of us would be dead already.I live near a handcart camp. I never heard of the handcart trek before moving here and it is one of the things that made me read more about Mormons. I cannot believe that people walked across the prairie for religious freedom. It is a stunning accomplishment. I don't know if I would have made it. Personally, I would hope that I had at least enough money to buy a wagon. Quote
confuzzled Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 I have done several treks and I honestly think that I could physically have done it. Has far as falling away or not....... I think we all have our own personal trek and IF I was to compare mine to those of these saints then I did in fact fall away. I was inactive for several years. The reason at the time seem valid, it simply hurt too much to go. How easy it would of been for those early pioneers to say "It hurt's too much to go!" They endured not only emotional pain but they had the physical pain as well and yet they continued on. I did not. Quote
mordorbund Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 Hard to say. I'm sure you pondered the question some before you replied, but I just had to chuckle at your answer. It's like you read the OP, and then consulted your magic 8 ball for how you would fare. Quote
Madriglace Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 I have always joked that I would still be in Nauvoo ... but really I have always hoped I would have been and if it comes to that would be like Sister Bathgate and Sister Parks who came west with the Willie company ... they were walkers and in their late 50's and made it all the way on foot except for a short ride when they were injured. Or Jane Manning who walked 1100 miles to get to the saints in Nauvoo. True women of God wih unshakeable faith. So ... if you were told to pack and leave for Missouri what would you do? Our circumstances may be different but he possiblilty exists. Give me time to pack and I am gone. Quote
annewandering Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 If we were called to go to Missouri I am all for it. I might make it to the end of the block but thank you God for wheel barrows and nice husbands. Quote
