That's silly.

Nope, they expect you're communicating the equivalent of a smile not that you're literally smiling. Someone who uses :confused: is communicating confusion rather than they have that literal expression on their face. I suspect people who use LOL aren't literally laughing out loud but they are communicating amusement.

Yes you read that right, the two initial behaviors I brought up poison communication in threads inasmuch as they are barriers to communication because they have been the source of you not being able to understand what people are trying to communicate. They're standard barriers, they aren't you specific inasmuch as you are the only person to ever have them, but they seem to be your largest ones. We all have our own personal barriers we have to work on.
