greenraiderskee Posted August 20, 2012 Report Posted August 20, 2012 Isn't there a lot of drug wars going on in and around Tijuana right now?Yea i heard its one of the most dangerous cities in the world, kidnapping is a huge problem as well as the drug cartels Quote
pam Posted August 20, 2012 Author Report Posted August 20, 2012 Yes there are. But isn't it wonderful at the same time knowing that amidst all of that, there are still so many faithful members that the need to have a temple in Tijuana is there. The people in that area are some of the most faithful temple goers. But it's getting harder and harder to cross the border for them to attend the San Diego temple. I'm so excited to see them get their own. Quote
pam Posted August 20, 2012 Author Report Posted August 20, 2012 I went to Tijuana last time I was in San Diego a couple of years ago. I had no problems. I'm hoping to go there again during my San Diego trip in October. A lot of the problems have been cleaned up. So the police chief that led that clean up has moved on to Juarez, Mexico which is rated the #1 crime ridden city. Quote

ClickyClack Posted August 21, 2012 Report Posted August 21, 2012 Isn't there a lot of drug wars going on in and around Tijuana right now?20 years ago, when I served as a missionary in Mexico, it was already a lawless, violent, crime-ridden, cartel-controlled wasteland, and it's gone downhill from there. Seeing a new temple erected there is a shining beacon of light. Quote
Vaticanus Posted September 17, 2012 Report Posted September 17, 2012 I too am somewhat surprised by the Temple announcement in Tijuana, though I can see the reason for it logistically. I would think that it would be built in nearby Mexicali before it would be built in Tijuana, but then, I was surprised East Berlin allowed a temple and had one built before West Berlin. I think the influence of such a place will be positive, however I recall the Temple in Monterrey has issues with the crime in its area and so often finds itself closed due to the violence. Remember in Tijuana they sometimes hang the heads of the assassinated or murdered upon bridges through the city. In the distant future, when people look back at the spiritual words and scriptures written in our times, the Gaddianton may indeed be identified in that wonderful, country going through very difficult times. The Mexican people bear much, let us hope one day they will be equally blessed. Quote
bytebear Posted September 18, 2012 Report Posted September 18, 2012 All the more reason they need a temple. Quote
