cbdem Posted September 9, 2012 Report Posted September 9, 2012 (edited) As an agnostic that is seriously looking into the Mormon faith I came across this Youtube video The Heretic's Guide to Mormonism, David Fitzgerald Skepticon 4 - YouTube. While I'm unsure of the veracity of all of the videos claims/attacks I have yet to find a Mormon apologist who has dealt with this video. So I am wondering whether you could point me to any apologetic that deals with his claims, or address some of his claims/attacks. Thanks. Edited September 9, 2012 by Just_A_Guy Quote
Just_A_Guy Posted September 9, 2012 Report Posted September 9, 2012 Welcome aboard, cbdem!LDS.net is not primarily a debate-oriented site, and we positively do not allow links to third-party sites run by critics. That said, if you'd like to raise some of the specific issues mentioned in your video (as opposed to just having someone refute the thing in toto in one thread), I'm sure you'll find people here who are ready and willing to discuss those issues. Thanks.I"d suggest taking a look at the fairlds.org site they tend to be pretty comprehensive about addressing different claims specifically. I'd try to answer best as i can if you had any specific question for us.. altho i'd wager you'd probably get better information from fairlds.org. Quote
morumon Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 Anyone that is "seriously looking into the church" needs only to go to Mormon.org or LDS.org to get all the information needed to evaluate the church and its doctrine and principles. All the apologetic debates in the world will never fully satisfy the intellectual mind of a skeptic. Ultimately, it will require a leap of faith and a desire to believe in something that is unseen but whose witness testifies of its truthfulness. Quote

Thanks. How would you define "seriously looking into the Mormon faith"? I just watched five minutes of this youtube video and within five minutes the gentlemen already misrepresented the Church 4 times.1. Tithing2. Seer Stones3. The LDS faith doesn't claim the majority of what he says we claim4. Etc...5. Etc... (not wasting more time to already point out more misinformation)As an agnostic, the chances are high that you are/were (not sure where you stand) a fan of the Hitch man, and Richard Dawkins. In relation to this video, I will provide a similarity between viewing this site and then coming onto a LDS forum and asking the question you have provided.Imagine going to Billy Graham, or David Barton, and reading a Book about Richard Dawkin's, and then going to an Athiest/Agnostic or Agnostic/Athiest site, and saying, "I came across a reference from Billy Graham/David Barton, explaining the heresies provided by Richard Dawkins, how would you respond? As an agnostic if a person wanted to learn about Richard Dawkins, or the Hitch man, would you guide them to one of their books to learn about who they are, or would you guide them to a book written by David Barton? If you truly want to discover the truth about Mormonism, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we would direct you to lds.org and mormon.org.This video is your typical run of the mill anti-Mormon blog. All of the information this person suggest he knows so much, are answered within Fairlds.org, and farms. Nothing new, same old, same old, anti-Mormon propaganda. Cheers in your pursuit to learn more about our faith, however you won't find what you are looking for if you continue to watch this type of video. Quote
