I have made several comments concerning abortion on various threads and I am amazed that Mormons are reticent to even respond when it comes to this subject. Where does the LDS Church officialy stand and what are your personal beliefs? This is an area where I believe we can join forces for the good of the family and society as a whole. Your thoughts?

Thanks.

I've moved this thread from Christian Beliefs to Learn About the Mormon Church since this question is directed to what our beliefs or position is regarding this subject.

Yeah, I probably should have inquired before I placed it where I did. It seems that I am not allowed to enter into debate unless I am on the Christian Beliefs Board which is why I wanted it there rather than a forum that does not allow for such debate.

What did you foresee yourself needing to be able to debate?

There shouldn't be a need for debate. You asked what our position is and we can provide the answer. No need for debate on this.

Very well. Then how do I question the belief in killing an unborn child because he or she is the product of a rape, for instance? Should I post this question in another area? In other words, I am interested in what you believe, but also why you believe it.

Thanks.

Sounds to me like you aren't wanting to learn but to debate it with the way your question is phrased.

I asked and the information was given. I have learned what you believe but I do not know why you believe it. Should I start a completley new thread in order to obtain this inflromation?

If someone asks me to give the official Catholic postition I would think it strange if they did not have any questions and I would be more than willing not only to state our position but to defend it as well. I am interested in the Mormon defense of the position that it is morally just to kill unborn children depending upon certain circumstances beyond their control (i.e rape, incest...) I realize that this is different than the original question but it is a logical continuation of the same subject based upon the original answer received. Had I known the official LDS postition to begin with I could have started with the question I now ask.

Where do I ask this question?

Thank you.

I believe this statement has already given the answer to your question:

The Church teaches its members that even these rare exceptions do not justify abortion automatically. Abortion is a most serious matter and should be considered only after the persons involved have consulted with their local church leaders and feel through personal prayer that their decision is correct.

1. An 11 year old is raped, becomes pregnant (either by incest or not), what affects will this have on the 11 year old girl?

2. It was not her choice, she was not a willing participant in the conception of the child.

3. Emotionally, the women as a result of the rape is not mentally in a position to have the child, and still remain emotionally intact to live her life in, for a lack of better words, normal.

The list could go on, however, as the quote mentions -- in these cases the persons involved should make it a matter of prayer, fasting, and consultation with priesthood leaders.

In the end, God is the judge, and each of us will have to account our actions before him. If a person prays, receive confirmation that in this situation, circumstance, the Lord confirms, then the accounting has already happened.

I think a key statement was made that you looked over.
