Chanteemomof6 Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 I thought alot about weather i wanted to post this topic, but I since I came from a pretty shaddy past. I have seen the darkness in people's eyes and also the light in people's eyes. I felt it was important to share a poem of a girl who died knowing she could meet Jesus face to face and know that she followed his teachings that her parents had passed down to her. Death of an Innocent I went to a party, Mom, I remembered what you said. You told me not to drink, Mom, So I drank soda instead. I really felt proud inside, Mom, The way you said I would. I didn't drink and drive, Mom, Even though the others said I should. I know I did the right thing, Mom, I know you are always right. Now the party is finally ending, Mom, As everyone is driving out of sight. As I got into my car, Mom, I knew I'd get home in one piece. Because of the way you raised me, So responsible and sweet. I started to drive away, Mom, But as I pulled out into the road, The other car didn't see me, Mom, And hit me like a load. As I lay there on the pavement, Mom, I hear the policeman say, "The other guy is drunk," Mom, And now I'm the one who will pay. I'm lying here dying, Mom... I wish you'd get here soon. How could this happen to me, Mom? My life just burst like a balloon. There is blood all around me, Mom, And most of it is mine. I hear the medic say, Mom, I'll die in a short time. I just wanted to tell you, Mom, I swear I didn't drink. It was the others, Mom. The others didn't think. He was probably at the same party as I. The only difference is, he drank And I will die. Why do people drink, Mom? It can ruin your whole life. I'm feeling sharp pains now. Pains just like a knife. The guy who hit me is walking, Mom, And I don't think it's fair. I'm lying here dying And all he can do is stare. Tell my brother not to cry, Mom. Tell Daddy to be brave. And when I go to heaven, Mom, Put "Daddy's Girl" on my grave. Someone should have told him, Mom, Not to drink and drive. If only they had told him, Mom, I would still be alive. My breath is getting shorter, Mom. I'm becoming very scared. Please don't cry for me, Mom. When I needed you, you were always there. I have one last question, Mom. Before I say good bye. I didn't drink and drive, So why am I the one to die? Please if you have teenagers share this with them!!!! Quote
Dr T Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 I read that in an e-mail months ago. I like it a lot. It is powerful. Quote

StrawberryFields Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 I want to thank you for posting that, I have teenagers and will share it with them.Car Accident & Auto Injury Statistics: With the increasing number of cars on the roads of the US each year, car accidents have unfortunately become a very common sight. Many people die as a result of car accidents, with many more receiving serious injuries. Such injuries and death often leave the victims and their families devastated. Here are some car accident statistics, which might be helpful in making people aware about trends in car accidents, and thus hopefully reducing the number of car accidents in the United States. On an average, there are more than 6 million car accidents on the roads of the US, annually.More than 3 million people get injured due to car accidents, with more than 2 million of these injuries being permanent. There are in excess of 40,000 deaths due to car accidents every year. Although this is a very high number by itself, some heart can be taken in the fact that statistics show that car accident fatalities have been witnessing a downward trend in recent years. The majority of car accidents could be avoided if only the drivers would drive more responsibly. About 40% of car accident fatalities occur because of a drunken driver. About 30% of the car accident fatalities can be attributed to driving above the speed limits and 33% and above because of reckless driving that causes the car to go off the road and result in an accident. The majority of car accident victims are the drivers, then the passengers of the car, followed by pedestrians, and lastly cyclists.Every 12 minutes, one person dies because of a car accident. Every 14 seconds, a car accident results in an injured victim. For those in the age group of 1 to 30 years, the leading cause of death is due to being involved in a car accident. People, who are between 15 to 24 years, and those who are above 75 years of age, are the people who are most severely affected by car accidents.http://www.lawcore.com/car-accident/statistics.html40 % of accidents due to a drunk driver behind the wheel...that is just irresponsible. Drinking and driving is a choice not something that just happens to them. Quote
Rosewood Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 Bad things happen to good people. At least thats the way it looks on this side of the veil. Most of us have been touched personally by people who have WoW problems in cars or not. I get too upset about the tragedy if I let myself. I find what works for me is to keep an eternal prespective concerning seemingly undeserved suffering by seeing these events through Heaven's eyes. We have a lot more family and friends on the other side than we do here. Life actually goes on, it doesn't end. Also, remember we fought a war just to get here so we could experience these very things (what was I thinking!) It's sad for those of us that remain, not for those that are gone. The test is ours. I just try to remember that when I hurt. Quote
the_jason Posted February 27, 2007 Report Posted February 27, 2007 At times when we wonder why good people suffer such tragedies, we need to look no further than our Savior for the answer. Jesus Christ was a good man, the only perfect man. He did not want to die, but he did want to obey His Father. Joseph Smith experienced a similar fate. When those things happen to us, it's very easy to claim that it is unfair. It's also very easy to be upset with our Heavenly Father. One thing that helps me is the knowledge that everyone will earn an appropriate reward in the next life. Those who shed innocent blood will get theirs. Those who die for the cause will get theirs. As hard as it may be to accept the loss of a loved one, an understanding of the plan of salvation will help us in the healing process. Quote
