BubbaSwitzler Posted May 16, 2013 Author Report Posted May 16, 2013 The help meet concept, Vort.Yes, let's grant that Eve was created as Adam's helpmeet. We would expect to see that recur as a theme or be otherwise expanded beyond Genesis. Quote
Vort Posted May 16, 2013 Report Posted May 16, 2013 I see. Yes, I think that theme most certainly does recur throughout scripture. Sarai (--> Sarah) helped Abram (--> Abraham) to achieve his destiny; without her, his destiny fails. Esther saved her people by being a help to her husband, who was blind to what was going on. Mrs. Lamoni saved her fallen husband from interment or immolation, resulting in his accomplishing his glorious work. Joseph Smith could not have accomplished the Restoration without the help of Emma, problematic though some aspects of their relationship may have been. The entire presentation of the Garden of Eden history and the fall of man is explicitly and quite obviously meant to be an instructional prototype of all the rest of us, starting with the fact that Adam and Eve were a man and a woman, given to each other in holy matrimony. The entire story is "typical", and we are to apply the type to ourselves. Quote
