Wingnut Posted August 3, 2013 Author Report Posted August 3, 2013 I found the story departure of Amy and Rory to have one huge gaping issue. Okay, New York 1938 or what ever it was dangerously unstable and he couldn't go back to pick Rory up, at least to my recollection that was the explanation given. Why not first, pop into Iowa in 1938 and take a train to pick him up, or assuming the entire year was unstable (they may have said it was, I can't recall), why not go pick him up in 1939 or 1940? Or them if Amy doesn't want him having to go a year without her (and not knowing if he'll ever see her again). I do admit that it is possible this was all explained and I missed it because I was realizing that this was going to be goodbye for the dashing duo. I saw The Angels Take Manhattan, but that's the last I've seen, so it's no spoiler for me. I wasn't sure about that, either, though. I think it may have had something to do with crossing your own time stream, or something. I, too, was sad to see the Williamses, er, Ponds, go. Quote
mnn727 Posted August 3, 2013 Report Posted August 3, 2013 Yes, as I remember it was about crossing of time streams. Could they appear? yeah, there's always a way. Amy Pond is/was my favorite companion of the modern age, although Rose Tyler is a very very close 2nd. Quote
arod31 Posted August 4, 2013 Report Posted August 4, 2013 I don’t think a female Doctor will do. No offence, but he is married and that would have to be taken into account with the storyline. I think it should be someone not well known outside of G.B. . I personally liked David as the Doctor, for companions Rose for the simple fact that she and the Doctor were in love and they played it so well and it played a big part on the show. Now with Matt and Amy WOW, what a relationship, best friends, son in law, mother in law. Just wow, I cried in angels in Manhattan. The Doctor finally had a family with him and traveling. Quote

Wingnut Posted August 4, 2013 Author Report Posted August 4, 2013 The new Doctor is Peter Capaldi (see his IMDB page here: Peter Capaldi - IMDb).He has actually been in the modern Doctor Who once already, in the episode The Fires of Pompeii, which I actually watched just yesterday, incidentally. As a matter of fact, Karen Gillan appeared in that same episode as well, prior to becoming Amelia Pond. Quote
lagarthaaz Posted August 5, 2013 Report Posted August 5, 2013 Peter Capaldi is a lifelong fan of Dr Who, and when he was just fifteen, he had a letter published where he congratulated the makers of a ten year anniversary special. Now, 40 years later he gets to play the Doctor himself - what a very cool experience for him! See here for the article: BBC News - Peter Capaldi: The next Time Lord Quote
