StosRob Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 I have lived in Iowa, Missouri and Tennessee and I haven't heard of it. It's a pretty name. Quote
Dr T Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 There is an Aunt Jemima pancake syrup that has been around for ever Quote
sixpacktr Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 Started in the South. When the black nannies/housekeepers were around, the really young kids would call them "mama". The women would say "ain't your mama" which later became "Aunt Jemima". Hence, the black lady wearing the scarf on Aunt Jemima syrup... True story? I don't know. I had heard that before, and it made sense. Quote
ninjahobbit8 Posted June 8, 2007 Report Posted June 8, 2007 I haven't heard it before....it's cool! how's it pronounced? Quote

It's a lovely name,(I think perhaps even 10 years ago it would have had a racial undertone to it, but I think that's completely gone now.)Emma Quote
the_jason Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 I'd give the name to my daughter if I wanted her to wear her hair in a bun and have a syrup named after her. Quote

Your special little Jem. :) Quote
