Palerider Posted June 28, 2014 Report Posted June 28, 2014 Surely you've read enough of my posts to know how conservative I am and understand that I agree with this. I find it perplexing that you've interpreted me as unsupportive of this. Maybe I'm being overly sensitive because I take pride in my support of the church (yeah, I know, pride's a sin) but it feels like I've been purposefully misunderstood after clarifying what I meant. For anyone out there reading this and thinking I meant don't bother getting set apart because it isn't important -- I DIDN'T MEAN THAT. Get set apart. It's extremely important. It did come across as if you were stating it's not that big a deal and it was like you were using a Sunbeam teacher as an example. I took iissue with it as having been on the leadership side setting people apart in their callings over the years. Iggy 1 Quote
Iggy Posted June 28, 2014 Report Posted June 28, 2014 When I first came back into activity in 1999, I was called as Branch Librarian. The library had be misused and was in total chaos. For 6 months I labored at getting it in order and in battling the members who felt that it should have remained an Open Door library, available to all and all times. I was also called as Primary Counselor (can't remember if it was 1st or 2nd- doesn't even matter now), and I was NOT set apart until 3 months later. Recap: Been back in active mode for a year - have two very busy callings and have NOT been set apart. I am struggling with both - Then I have a meeting with the Stake Librarian. He is totally appalled that I had NOT been set apart. He said that ANYONE called to ANY POSITION needs the blessing setting apart brings to them. One of which is the power and strength of the Holy Ghost to aid them in their calling. Once I was set apart as Branch Librarian and Primary Counselor - those callings got easier to bear. I had always prayed before, during and after each lesson-each time I went to work in the library. But after being set apart - I could feel the Holy Ghost more, and the organizational ideas really flowed. Fourteen months into my re-activity I was also called to be the Branch Family History Consultant. When I accepted that calling I said that I would need to be set apart for it sooner rather than later. Happened that Sunday! Yep, I had three callings all at the same time. I magnified each one - I also magnified my calling as Visiting Teacher. THAT and Home Teacher are two callings that REALLY should be and need to have the blessings that come with being set apart. When I was called as Branch Librarian last year, after moving back from AZ - I was set apart the following Sunday. The clean up, organization and getting the members to realize that the Library was no longer an open door library was infinitely easier. Only took three months this time - and it was in worse shape than back in 1999. FYI there had been NO librarian called or who had accepted the calling after I moved in 2004. Quote
Guest Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 About setting apart... I have been a nursery teacher, CTR teacher, and primary chorister... I was only set apart for the first one. In Primary, you can move around all the jobs in Primary and not need to be set apart for each one because your first setting apart is for a Primary worker in general. Quote
