Ironhold Posted April 10, 2017 Report Posted April 10, 2017 https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/04/08/marvel-artist-ardian-syaf-hid-anti-christian-jewish-messages-weeks-x-men-comic/ Marvel Comics is dealing with the public relations fallout after it was determined that Indonesian-born artist Ardian Syaf hid anti-Jewish and anti-Christian material in an issue of "X-Men Gold". Although one item should realistically have stood out enough to make the editors ask questions, nobody else at Marvel knew about it until a number of people - including folks from Indonesia - began contacting them and the artist directly through social media to point it out. Marvel's trying to whistle past the graveyard on this one, but the artist has made no apologies and has even encouraged people to buy more issues. Oy. Quote
Blackmarch Posted April 10, 2017 Report Posted April 10, 2017 (edited) I doubt its going to be big enough to give the huge atmic wedgie plus buttkicking they deserve (and Dc needs it as well as marvel) Edited April 10, 2017 by Blackmarch Quote
Ironhold Posted April 10, 2017 Author Report Posted April 10, 2017 I'm hearing whispers that he's already been blacklisted by the art community in Indonesia for bringing negative international attention to the country and its internal politics. Quote
Ironhold Posted April 11, 2017 Author Report Posted April 11, 2017 http://www.newsarama.com/33977-x-men-gold-artist-ardian-syaf-my-career-is-over.html His career's done, but he's making himself out to be a martyr because of it. Quote
Ironhold Posted May 16, 2017 Author Report Posted May 16, 2017 More woes for Marvel. Black Panther? Massively popular. Luke Cage? Massively popular. Storm? Still popular despite not having been in the movies lately. All three in a comic book in which they take on robot cops in Harlem? Cancelled after only two issues. https://heatst.com/entertainment/marvel-cancels-ta-nehisi-coates-black-lives-matter-comic-due-to-poor-sales/ . One would think that the story itself is the reason why everything failed given that these are popular characters, but it's easier for Marvel and its supporters to blame racism. Quote
