Josie Posted September 21, 2007 Report Posted September 21, 2007 Hmmmmmmmmm, seems Mattel is letting China off the hook and trying to mend relations at the same time! Wonder how much political pressure was behind this? http://money.cnn.com/2007/09/21/news/inter...dex.htm?cnn=yesJosie Quote
Moksha Posted September 21, 2007 Report Posted September 21, 2007 Somebody should have told those Mattel engineers about the hazards of lead paint and other toxic materials. Quote
sixpacktr Posted September 21, 2007 Report Posted September 21, 2007 Before I begin, I just want to make clear I am a firm believer in the free market/free enterprise system. But we are selling ourselves down the river for the almighty dollar by allowing China to develop because they are cheap labor. The Chinese market is driving the rest of the world crazy in raw materials (we can't get them!) because they are buying them up faster than they can be produced. We are outsourcing automobile parts to China, instead of keeping that technology here. We are buying produce from China, where they still use human dung as fertilizer. We have given them everything, all for a quick buck. China will, one day, rise up and try to swat us, hard. They are communists, and it is part of their manifesto. They aren't interested in 'getting along' or being 'kind hearted'. They will destroy us if they can. It doesn't surprise me about Mattel. Not at all. They have a bottom line to protect, and stock holders to answer to. We really need to let people know that we need to get out of China and let them rot in the 19th century until they overthrow their government... Quote

Josie Posted September 21, 2007 Author Report Posted September 21, 2007 I know that Babies R Us recalled every plastic baby bib that they sold on their own. Did not wait for mfg recall. They did it their selves, regardless of condition or when purchased. Does that tell us something? If it is in baby bibs, cribs are not safe, toys are not safe, what will be next? Xbox's or our soap, or maybe our make-up? Once everything is recalled, what are we going to be left with? Quote
sixpacktr Posted September 21, 2007 Report Posted September 21, 2007 With precious little, sadly. And THAT is why Mattel is caving, as well as others. They can't afford multi-billion dollar recalls, resourcing of production, etc... Quote

They can't afford multi-billion dollar recalls, resourcing of production, etc...Sad to see them do that. By apologizing they are admitting blame and are opening themselves up for multimillion dollar lawsuits, recalls, resourcing anyway. Is their hope just to buy time? What kickbacks are they getting back from the chinese goverment? Or are they hoping that people can not see the common denominator with the majority of the recalls within the last year or so? I hope that the consumer is not dumb enough to fall for it. BTW is Mattel apologizing for the pet food too? The lawyers want to know where to address their lawsuits. Its time for another Made in the USA movement. Quote

mountainrider Posted September 24, 2007 Report Posted September 24, 2007 It is about time that the crappy chinese products are getting some limelight..........and not in a good way. It is true, we are financing China's military buildup with every cheap product we buy. It really irks me that you have to look HARD to find a product that ISN'T made in China. My wife gets sick of me looking at where something is made before I buy it but most of the time, I don't have a choice.......I have to accept the crappy quality. I would much rather pay more for a good quality product made somewhere else. That's all!!! Quote
