Guest Starsky Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 I think it will be as difficult for President Hinckley to continue on as it was for Elder LeGrand Richards. Quote
AFDaw Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 A few years back the Prophet came to Greenville, NC (where I was at school) and I got to hear them speak. She had a very good sense of humor :) I can't say that I've been around when a wife of a Prophet has passed away. Wonder what will happen. Quote

But I think President Hinckley isn't 'able' because of his advanced age...the prophet just before Hinckley lost his wife and married again...though aged. Quote
Guest lt Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 I think president hinckley would die of a broken heart first...They had an amazing marriage and always went everywhere together. I'm going to keep him in our prayers Quote
Guest estump Posted April 9, 2004 Report Posted April 9, 2004 I agree LT. I hope it isn't too long before they are reunited. Quote

You can't legislate love. Quote
juliejalago Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 I also am wondering where I can find these "rules" about re-marriage? Just a few days ago on another forum I read comments from an LDS poster who truly thought a new prophet was going to be called because President Hinckley's new widower status somehow made him ineligible to be President of the Church. Where is this preposterous idea coming from? I can't imagine anyone expecting a 90-something old man to marry again! Even if he were in his 60's or 70's, no one should bat an eye if he decided to remain single. He already has all the temple ordinances he needs for exaltation through his sealing to his first wife. dontagreeljefe Posted April 11, 2004 Report Posted April 11, 2004 Mission and temple presidents have to have a spouse or they are released rom that calling. As for apostles L. Tom Perrys wife died shortly after he became an apostle. Following the advice of spencer w kimball he remarried again. Joseph smith said you should respect your dead spouse and not remarry immediatly generall teachings of hte prophet joseph smith. However he told Hyrum to marry right away he had a young family. President Hunter married again at 82. As for good gossip columns would he marry elder ashton or elder mcconkies widow. Members of the quorom of the twelve apostles and generally first presidency because that is generally where they come from only get released at death so it is not uncommon for them to lose a spouse. However they are not obligated to marry again when it happens. Flora Benson died while Ezra Taft Benso was the prophet. He was only a few feet from the grave himself though., Joseph Fielding Smiths 3rd wife jesse evans died while he was still in office unexpectedly she was 26 years younger than him. He was 94 himself. They are still the prophet In those instances it is not neceassary to marry again. George Albert Smith was a widower his whole presidency he never remarried. Harold B. Lee married again as a counselor in the first presidency. Dallin H oaks first wife passed away and he remarried shortly after. But Elder Scott is still a widower and last i checked has no desire to remarry. So gas are not oblkigated to remarry after the death os a spouse though some do. I doubt our prophet will. Quote
