OK, I've been dusting bookshelves. Over the years, we have acquired study guides for priesthood and relief society, gospel doctrine classes, etc. Sometimes multiple copies of the same book. We are running out of space.

Is there any reason we should continue to keep the Priesthood Study Guide for 1984? or the Relief Society Manual for 1981? Does ownership prove we actually attended class?

And, how does one respectfully dispose of them?

I would dispose of them....if you have recycling in your area that would be a great way to rid yourself of them.

1984? WOW!! I can't even find 2007's manual.

If they're in decent shape and you have a DI near you, I would suggest donating them. You never know who might be looking for old LDS manuals.

I'm a hoarder of memorabilia of all kinds, so I would probably turn your collection into an archive, which somebody might be interested in after 100 years or so...pass them on as such to your children, and their children :)

LoL, Pushka, yeah, of course I am too, else why would I still have 1981 books???!!!!

I thank everyone for their responses. We don't have a DI near. The Ward library doesn't want.

I am flipping through the worn ones looking for marginal notes than might add to journalizing, and will keep those obviously used in class. I think I will take the duplicates to church and put them on the "free" table and announce that they are there. If no one takes them after two weeks, I will shred.

And lest any bibliophiles have heart palpitations, these are softbound annual study guides; I wouldn't dream of letting go of any of our collection of biographies, discourses, histories, or other lds writings!
