My Grandpa. He died long ago but, I remember picking wild blackberries w/ him on his property.

My father would take me to the old deserted rail road tracks in Seattle so that I could pick blackberries. All day saturday he and I would pick. We would get buckets and buckets of them. Then Mom and Grandma would can them all for me. Some would be made into jam, and some into jars for making pies and compote. My birthday is in June and I always wanted Blackberry Pie or Cobbler or Compote. Can't do that in the summer. Blackberries aren't ripe until later in the year. I willingly shared my Blackberry jam, but not my canned blackberries! Those were mine for my birthday and for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, etc.
