19nazzy Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 I recently got a typical 8:30 - 5:00 job. While it is nice to have, something I would like help with is wondering how to keep the spirit there and trying not to get weighed down with the usual work I have to do. I think every once in a while I'll go to LDS.org and just read a little bit of something. Any other things I could do to keep my spirits upbeat and on the Lord? Quote

Be careful about going to websites that are not part of your work. The company I work for is lenient on this, but where my sister works - they will fire you immediately if you stray to any unauthorized site. Quote
havejoy Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 I recently retired from a job that was very spiritually crippling. I had an hour drive each way so I would listen to books by Gerald N. Lund or the Scriptures. Once at work I tried to keep a church song in my head or kind of sing one to myself when I could. Praying before work and many times during work also helped. Good luck, I know it can be hard. Quote

Here what they told me to stay away from 'Social Networking' stuff. I recently retired from a job that was very spiritually crippling. It's not really a job that drives the spirit away but I'm just trying to keep it with me as much as I can. Quote
MorningStar Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 Are you allowed to listen to music there? I used to have a job where I could do data entry and use headphones at the same time. You could also put up some nice pictures around you and switch them around once in a while so you don't forget they're there, change your desktop on your computer, etc. Quote
rickg Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 Good topic. Always been a tough one for me. I work in a machine shop. Blue collar workers aren't always the best breed Luckily the shop I currently work at is at least %50 LDS, including all of the management(owner is in a stake presidency). Way different working in Utah! My last job up in Washington had MAYBE 5 or 6 of us being LDS. Job before that I was the only one. Really makes a diff in the enviroment. I'm rambling pointlessly here. Oh well. Time to go to bed. Quote
checkerboy Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 I used to work at a screen printing shop and I would download talks from speeches.byu.edu. They have them arranged by topic or speaker. I was able to listen while I worked and had quite a number of spiritual experiences while there. If you have itunes you can subscribe to a ton of free LDS podcasts. Quote
Guest Iggy Posted September 17, 2007 Report Posted September 17, 2007 If you have your own office and are allowed to put up anything on the walls (within reason) then order MormonAds through lds.org and put them up. They are rather inexpensive - and they get the message across. New Era Poster Set You can get them in either postcard size or in 8x11 or 14x20 posters. The package of 12 postcard size are only $0.50 ($0.04 each, the 8x11 package of 12 is $5.50 ($0.46 each) and the 14x20 package of 12 are $12.00 ($1.00 each). NO shipping charges in the US. Don't know about other countries. Come to think of it I think I will order some for my tiny little office (7.5' x 8') I have a wall that really needs something, and I do need the inspiration. Quote
