Larry Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 Hello all. I resigned from the church 5 years ago and am now wanting to return. It is a long story that has probably been posted many times before but basically I was wrong. I left to find the real Jesus and finally realized that He had been there all along. I have a very strong testimony that all the ills of this world and of mine could be fixed if we would just simply follow the brethren. I very much appreciated President Hinkleys closing remarks at gc. He admonished everyone to read the talks as alot of "prayer and meditation" had went into their preparations. I am sure that it has been said before but this time I heard it. Holland's talk was awesome as usual. He is so bold and no matter how I have tried to accept the trinity doctrine while attending another Christian church for the past 5 years, I cannot accept it. To me, it makes no sense on any level. There are very few churches, if any, that don't teach the trinity doctrine. Obviously, there is much more to my story but my question is if you legally resign from the church do you have to be re baptized or do you just have to sign some papers or something? I will ask the bishop soon but I am looking for a "heads up" before I speak to him. My name is Larry...please pray for me. I've had some pretty cool spiritual insights, feelings, and experiences since making my decision to return to the church. I appreciate the church and desperately need LDS friends, even if only through this forum. Quote
Guest AutumnBreez Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 I can not tell you what an individual Bishop will do...I was ex'd and coming back, I did not resign my name though. I am coming back after a long 12 years. I am so thrilled at coming back! I have spoken to the bishop and he had to take councel with Stake Pres.on issue. I don't have to go through as much for my particular case. Yours I can not say. It may have to go through a few channels since it was removed. Rebaptism? Not sure. My thought would be no, but I don't know what you have done in that 5 years that you may have to. When the records are removed what happens??? Did you get confirmation that your name was taken out? I know it is a gesture that they don't take lightly. Sorry I wasn't much help. Are you in the same location/ward? Pray and ask for direction. WELCOME TO LDS FORUMS!! Quote
HiJolly Posted October 26, 2007 Report Posted October 26, 2007 Hello all. I resigned from the church 5 years ago and am now wanting to return. I have a very strong testimony that all the ills of this world and of mine could be fixed if we would just simply follow the brethren. It's interesting how there is a difference in 'hearing' those words, and 'knowing' those words. Sounds like you've hit upon the 'knowing'. Cool. My experience has been that when you discuss trinity with a really knowledgable Catholic (or Protestant, I suppose) they really don't sound that different from our understanding. They decry 'modalism' as much as we do. Especially if you equate 'intelligence' as the 'substance'. Obviously, there is much more to my story but my question is if you legally resign from the church do you have to be re baptized or do you just have to sign some papers or something? I will ask the bishop soon but I am looking for a "heads up" before I speak to him. I think if I were you, I'd really look forward to being baptized anew. They used to re-baptize a lot in the Early Mormonism days. My name is Larry...please pray for me. I've had some pretty cool spiritual insights, feelings, and experiences since making my decision to return to the church. I appreciate the church and desperately need LDS friends, even if only through this forum.I will pray for you, Larry. I think it's so cool when the spirit works with us, to bring us where we need to be. It can certainly be scary, but it is important to follow where the Lord leads. Just as an aside, I would strongly encourage you to seek a real flesh-and-bones friend where you are, in your Ward if you can. It will pay off in more ways than most of us can realize, and is well worth the effort. Please be open and keep it a possibility always. HiJolly Quote

I share similar experiences though I left due to a shattered marriage...went off the deepend and really got angry at God (long story too), anyway, I was out for 3 years and attended a non-denominational church for a time...at one point I had resolved to find out the "real truth" and start over...Got a new King James Bible and could not get through chapter 1 of Genesis without seeing Mormon Doctrine everywhere...I was frustrated that I had "Mormon goggles" on and I could not reject the things that made Mormonism unique, such as the Godhead, Baptism for the dead, The Book of Mormon, The apostasy etc etc etc...I knew from years of study that these things were true...finally after some heavy battering in the world I came back to church...and what a welcome it was! I've said before is was like walking out of a desert, and that is a very apt analogy...so anyway, it is good to hear you are coming back and I am sure your bishop will set things right...So had you gone all anti against the church as well, or did you just quietly leave?Edit: P.S. You have a friend here Larry...:) Quote

Garden Girl Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 Welcome Larry... You're in my prayers as I write... and I also send you encouragement to hold to the rod, and be prepared for the Adversary to try and throw stumbling blocks in your way... he doesn't want you walking the path to the Savior and our Heavenly Father... I, too, was inactive for many years, and made the determination to return to the Church... that was 12 years ago, and I've never looked back. My life is rich and full... my joy is brim... You'll like it here... from the beautiful central Oregon coast... The Garden Girl Quote
Geocacher Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 Welcome to the forums Larry. I myself have been thinking of comming back, but I have never resigned or got EX'd, just having been inactive for several years. I have had Issues with the church myself, but after reading a ton of Near Death Experiences over the years, it seems like the LDS church is the best match for all that study, in that we did have an existance before birth, but had come through a vail of forgetfullness as we came to live in Mortality. CourtneyP Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 Hello brother! I too am returning after a long 10 year period of inactivity. Sounds like you've been doing lots of thinking and studying. Way to go on that front! :) Quote
Janicka Posted December 3, 2007 Report Posted December 3, 2007 Hi Larry! I am in the same situation as you. However, I am nervous about pursuing the issue of re-baptism while I am still in my current marriage (which will likely be over in a few months). I did buy a Book of Mormon and start reading it again, though. Now I am sure that my testimony is my own and not influenced by anyone else. I'll pray for you! Pray for me as well :) Quote
