Sopines1980 Posted November 23, 2007 Report Posted November 23, 2007 Hi all! Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Michael and I have been "investigating" for about 4 weeks now working with missionaries. I will be baptized on December 8th and really don't know when to call myself a member or convert versus investigator so excuse the semantics. I am excited about baptism and life beyond and happy to have found the "truth" I already feel that I have a testimony that this IS the truth and that Joseph Smith was a prophet and look forward to gaining even stronger testimony as I receive baptism and the Holy Ghost. So--I look forward to posting here more in future and if anyone can suggest hymns for baptism, please let me know. I have already chosen Praise to the Man (which is also a GREAT film that I watched with the missionaries if any of you haven't yet seen it) and need one more hymn. Please let me know Thanks! M Quote
avatar4321 Posted November 23, 2007 Report Posted November 23, 2007 (This thread might be more appropriate for the introduction area) Regardless of that, welcome! We are happy to have you joining in fellowship with us. Just remember Baptism isnt the end. its the beginning. There is so much to learn. It's incredible. Don't ever feel afraid to ask questions. We will probably still be learning years from now. There are also lots of good songs to choose from. "I believe in Christ" "I know that my Redeemer lives" "Come, Come Ye saints" "High on a mountain top" "Joseph's First prayer" and countless others. My suggestion would be to flip through the hymnbook when you get a chance and choose something you feel inspired to. Quote

To answer your question on the semantics of what to call yourself: As of right now today, you are an investigator, you'll get baptised on Dec. the 8th, Saturday. On the Sabbath- the 9th, at church then will most likely be Confirmed after receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost (Laying on of hands). Then your a Confirmed member, in other words, you have began the required covenants with God. You will be learning so much, especially when you listen and follow the whisperings of the Spirit. With keeping with the ordinances and following the covenants you will begin the journey, prepare to make more covenants and getting Temple recommend to go to the Temple. Ok another semantic name question: You were not born in the Church and baptised at 8 yrs of age? I take it that you are an adult joining right?...you are among many, called Converts, but no matter convert or not....you'll be a member! How you came to knowing the truth and coming to His Church, telling others your conversion story and testimony will probably be the only time you say you are a convert to the Church. Hope this helps answer any questions. Quote
