Guest tomk Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 Hello!I am 38, married, 3 kids. Baptized at age 8. Served a mission in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Sealed in Salt Lake temple. Went inactive for about a decade and recently came back. Lately it has been a struggle to get to church again. 9 AM and it's a chore to get my lazy bones moving. Plus a few children with special needs. Plus we've all been sick with strep, flu, you-name-it.I enjoy reading and writing on religious / spiritual topics. Some areas of particular interest for me are the Atonement, Intelligences and the Second Comforter. I am living proof that the Lord knows how to "succor [me] according to [my] infirmities." It is breathtaking to experience the Atonement working in my life on a daily basis.I look forward to the fellowship I know exists here.Tom Quote

Maya Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 It sounds hard with special kids especially. I had just usual kids.. a bit lively though, but I just had to learn to cut connection to the voices telling me to stay home... especially when things got too rough... so I think twice in 25 yearsw I been home when I could have gone.... Nice to see you here. Your interests are about the same as mine... see you around! Quote
Canuck Mormon Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 I would dream for 9 o'clock. Our ward meets at 8am!!! Thank goodness I have only 1 and he's almost 9. Make it to church when you can, none of us are perfect. Quote

Argentina84 Posted February 15, 2008 Report Posted February 15, 2008 Welcome Tomk! How much did you like your mission in Brazil? I have never been there, but everybody says it's a beautiful place. And do you still speak Portuguese? Kind regards! Argentina84 Quote

Guest tomk Posted February 17, 2008 Report Posted February 17, 2008 Welcome Tomk! How much did you like your mission in Brazil? I have never been there, but everybody says it's a beautiful place. And do you still speak Portuguese?Kind regards!Argentina84 I was desperately homesick for the first few months. Eventually that lessened and I learned to love the people I served. I would say that it definitely ended-up being mostly for me. It benefitted ME the most. I hope I helped other people (I may never know how much) but I did the most growing during that time out of anyone, I think. It is beautiful. I had never actually seen "jungle" before. Brazil has real jungles. And beautiful beaches (don't tell my mission president).I still try to "fala a lingua" here and there. I have an old mission buddy who messages me on MSN once in a while. I never spoke it all that great. I still had tons of accent when I spoke it, even at the end of my mission. But, I tested out of 16 credits worth of Portuguese course work at BYU after returning home, so I guess some of it stuck. Quote
