Snow Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 http://kutv.com/topstories/local_story_159184331.htmlI skip Sacrament meeting one week (I did go to Priesthood) and they go and change the rules on you.For Pete's sake, when will it stop? Next thing you know they'll stop using actual wine in the sacrament. Quote
broadway Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 so...you've only skipped ONE meeting, eh? hmmm..... Quote
Guest lt Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 Hey I signed her petition, and I also wrote ebay a nasty letter. WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!YA>>>>HOOO>>>> Quote
Guest Ruthie-chan Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 About freakin' time. Heck, I think they need to take it a step further and require ID as well as a Temple Recommend, though that may not work so well in third world countries. It ticks me off how rude these people are. No one would ever be this disrespectful to Jew or Muslim sacred possessions. Psst, Snow, they did stop using real wine in sacrament. Quote

Psst, Snow, they did stop using real wine in sacrament. Just so you know where I'm coming from, I think it's distasteful for people to sell temple garments on e-bay. However, that's just a price to pay for living in a free country. People will always do things that are offensive to others - even Mormons. I don't have time now, but I'm pretty sure you could find some people disrespecting Muslim and Jewish items. Quote
Guest bizabra Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 CHURCH MEMBERSHIP NUMBER? WHAT IS THIS? Members are numbered? Like a social security number? What's up with that? Does anyone here know their "number"? How can someone find out what their number was? Is it reassigned if you resign or are ex'ed? Questions questions questions. . . . . Quote
Jenda Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 Of course the church membership is numbered, and each has one. In the RLDS, it is called a baptismal number, and it is used to track membership, record statistics, etc. Quote

Records of when we are baptized, endowed, sealed etc, are all vital information and numbers are the most convienant way to keep track of everyone.I have no idea what is done with them if you resign or are ex'd. Guest Peace Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 I am so glad they have finally done this. I have felt it necessary for years. I wonder what that is going to do to fundamentalists who are not members of this church but buy their garments from the church. Quote

Guest Starsky Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 I believe you are right....this won't stop them...they are very strong in their convictions. Quote
shanstress70 Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 They will still be able to get them off of e-bay. There will always be disgruntled ex's who will continue to sell them - wrong as it may be! E-bay won't require them to have a membership #. Quote

True enough. However, even a disgruntled ex's reccomment expires which will require him to forge one if he chooses to try to buy garments in the future. That will be one more thing that the disgruntled ex will have against him at judgment day if he chooses not to repent in this life. Remember, those who attend the temple make sacred covenants with God to keep certain things sacred. Those who break those covenants will pay the price if they don't repent. Quote

Yeah...but who would want to pay $2000 a pair? LOLMaybe there will be a black market...for this. Quote
Guest Unorthodox Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 Do you think this might hurt garment sales? Quote

Right, but there will always be 'new' ex's who will continue to sell thir recently discarded garments on e-bay.Kevin, your statement doesn't mean anything to the ones selling these things. Since they are ex-mo's, that usually means they don't believe the church is true. The covenants really don't mean anything to them anymore if they think they are invalid. Quote
Guest curvette Posted June 10, 2004 Report Posted June 10, 2004 Originally posted by Unorthodox@Jun 10 2004, 11:30 AM So if I didn't keep my Temple Recommend current, and my garments were worn out, I would have to go back to wearing tighty whities? I guess that's fine with me.Do you think this might hurt garment sales? No. They will also accept your church membership number if, for whatever reason, your temple recommend isn't current. Once you've been endowed, unless you are excommunicated, you are supposed to wear garments. Even disfellowshipped members can (and are encouraged) to wear their temple garments. Quote

Guest Starsky Posted June 11, 2004 Report Posted June 11, 2004 Unfortunately, I misspelled the word "whities" and it was already quoted. Oh well... I fixed it Tao...hope you don't mind. Quote
M.P.S. Posted June 11, 2004 Report Posted June 11, 2004 Um...not to say that this story isn't true (I've seen the link and it looks lagit), but I have been searching all of the Church's website looking for what the Brethren have said and I can't find anything. Any thoughts? Quote

Any thoughts? Sometimes they just give the news stations the story.....and beings it is channel two....and their site...and they are in SLC....where the brethren would take that station out in a heart beat if they didn't tell it like it was....I totally think the story is true.Your stake and ward leaders will probably be getting letters to read to the congregations soon...look for that to happen.. Jason Posted June 11, 2004 Report Posted June 11, 2004 "I wonder what that is going to do to fundamentalists who are not members of this church but buy their garments from the church." "I wonder what that is going to do to fundamentalists who are not members of this church but buy their garments from the church." "They'll probably just start making their own using ours as a blueprint." I can answer this (as a former fundamentalist myself). They don't wear the "official" LDS Church garment. They still wear the "old fashioned" style that went down to your wrists and ankles. Oh, and one of the "marks" was reversed. Oh, and they are ONE piece, and they use Tape-Tie strings in the middle instead of buttons. SOO, no they don't use "yours" as a "blueprint". They consider the LDS Church garment as "apostate". Quote
