  1. Without sinning, they would have gone on living forever, thus not needing to multiply. They didn't know carnality. I thought it was church doctrine that they were contradicting commandments. Have I misunderstood theory for LDS doctrine?
  2. Fame Home evenings were set up for two reasons. 1) family togetherness 2) learning more about God So, your husband isn't a member. Not that big a deal when it comes to planning FHE. You don't need scriptures and a manual to plan FHE's. God created everything. So, it should be fairly easy to pick a topic that would offend your husband. You could do an FHE on farm animals, or the solar system, or whatever. You might even be able to slip in a scripture reference every now and then, too. Is he at least a theist? or better yet, a christian? Maybe you could easily use the Bible to make FHE's? broadway
  3. When I was little, sure I made the choice to disabey, but I wasn't held accountable. James 4:17 "Therefore, to him that knoweth to do good and doeth it not, to him it is sin" so, is it not sin, otherwise?
  4. 1.) God didn't create Evil, right? 2.) God did create the tree of knowledge and put it on earth with our First Parents. 3.) God gave them free agency which they used to eat of the tree. 4.) They gained a knowledge of good and evil, making themselves accountable for their choices. .................................................................................................................................................. Does that mean that they aren't held accountable for eating of the tree? Does that mean that God put an obstacle in their way that they were not properly prepared for? Perhaps this may be why God felt it was fair to give them contradicting commandments,...it wouldn't matter because they wouldn't be held accountable for it anyways. But, they WERE held accountable, weren't they...they WERE cast out of the garden. Interesting thoughts. What are yours on this issue? Broadway
  5. hmmm...my user name is FAERIE..and i'm PREGNANT...hmmm or how about your signature? Anyways, Punaboy, welcome to the site. Stick around a while. There are many kinds of folks here. Don't let a few tongue-in-cheek responses disuade you from continuing your religous eduaction here at the LDS online university.
  6. yes, I saw that. But it doesn't give any sort of instruction at all. It only says that married couples are privileged to have the responsibilty to have children if they are physically able to, and that it is up to the couple to decide when and how many...What would you say that means??I have heard both stands onit. I guess the answer really is to go to our bishop about it, prayerfully. broadway
  7. My spouse and I were discussing birth control methods with the church in mind. We tried a search on lds.org to find the church's view of it. We were not able to find anything. I then decided to try to find that old birth control thread but couldn't. Please help me with this search. I would appreciate those responses that have links to the LDS church's official stand on this. If you must give opinion, then state it as that. thanks a bunch broadway
  8. Not to BUTT in, butt which nations eat hair..specifically the kind of hair you two are talking about?
  9. Interesting, indeed. There is a book written by a member of the LDS church that believes that there are only two Christians sects that seem valid. The LDS church and the Catholic church. Either there was a falling away, or there wasn't. The author says there was a falling away and goes on to prove (with mostly biblical scriptures) how this is so and why the LDS church is the correct church. Maybe you have heard of it A Marvelous Work and Wonder
  10. The younger you are when you get it, the more things will be on it. Typically, 14 yr olds get theirs, but those younger can get theirs if they are mature enough...as Ex-Mormon Jason said, ask you parents. I will add, talk to your bishop as well, and maybe even your patriarch.
  11. I have heard the arguement made (and used to make that same arguement myself) that the image we were created was of God and he has three parts...much the way Freud explains it (id, ego and superego). My physical body (Christ), my spirit (Holy Spirit) and my mind (God) However, I have since realised how far I was reaching to grasp something that couldn't be grasped. So then I just dismissed it by saying "Well, no one can comprehend the mind of God. Just because I cannot fathom it doesn't mean it isn't true" After converting to the LDS church, things are much easier for me. The idea of a godhead makes much more sense, scripturally speaking. I understand how hard it is to believe either concept of God. Both concepts take faith. One must study out the scripture rather than listening to what a preacher tells them. That is the only way anyone will come up with the truth.
  12. I have heard of these kinds of things before, and have read article after article about it. I have even read about a 12 year old girl who was forced to marry JS for all time and eternity. I haven't seen much in the way of proof though other than articles. It is hard for me to accept something online as true simply because it looks offical. To be fair, I do not know what kind of proof I would accept. I mean, Do I really think that JS is going to come down into my home and tell me his life history concerning his marriages? I am not sure what to make of all that, but I do know that the church is a good church with strong family values and such. The scriptures say all over the place that a good tree bares good fruit. As long as my church continues to strive towards the good, I will remain a loyal member.
  13. You use them as underwear. Do you ever go without underwear?Only, you treat this underwear very carefully because of the symbolism involved.
  14. Confusing? You were anti-mormon? Then you became anti-mormon because you met the man you are going to marry who is LDS? oops, he he...let me clear that up. I was indifferent until I met this handsome mormon. Then I became anti-mormon. Why did the handsome mormon make you go from indifferent to anti? Doesn't make sense to me. I also asked similar question in a different thread. It seems on the other thread that you are LDS. But here you say you aren't. i am indeed lds. once i found out he was mormon, i read all the appropriate books about it, including 'godmakers' and the rest of the highly informative books on the subject. i formed my opinion (actually, i formed my mother's opinion...)and harrassed him about mormonism until 1999, months before we got married. eventually, after not being able to answer his questions and realizing how wrong my info was, i agreed to take the missionary lessons to prove once and for all it was wrong...the rest (as they say) is history. does that make more sense?
  15. check out my post to you answering this same question on the thread about killing one's own children as a favor to them.
  16. not all worlds do. This (according to the theories of some) is the worst world created by our heanevly father, that is why Christ had to come here to be crucified, none of the other worlds would do it. ................................................................................................................................................................... editing it to make sure that it is clear that I do not believe that God created this world to be worse than the others. it just happened that way the same way that the Jews were the only race that would crucify Christ.
  17. Confusing? You were anti-mormon? Then you became anti-mormon because you met the man you are going to marry who is LDS? oops, he he...let me clear that up. I was indifferent until I met this handsome mormon. Then I became anti-mormon.
  18. Probably the only two anti-mormons in the entire universe. doubt it...There are plenty of anti- all kinds of things. I used to be anti-mormon. I didn't care one way or the other until I met the man I was going to marry who is LDS. Then I became anti-mormon. not that you asked...
  19. where did you find that information?
  20. ok, fess up. Who answered as "Anti-Mormon"?
  21. I do have two children. My first loyalty goes to Heavenly Father. This can be difficult at times. My second loyalty is to my husband...again, this can be difficult. Then to my children. This is the way things ought to be, according to scriptures. I can understand your point of view and ,as a parent, can appreciate it. However, you loose them the opportunity to progress further if you take their earthly life away before the age of accountability. How fair would it be to your child if he was going to get married, endure to the end, etc and make it to the very top, but you decided that he wasn't good enough to actually accomplish all that. How dare any person take these kinds of things into their own hands? If you were Heavenly Father, what would you think of a person who did such a thing?
  22. I will agree with everyone here and say that it depends on your motives... If you want to have the opportunity to become a god (or goddess) and create your own world, you need to be married...otherwise, no. You can make it to the Kingdom of our Heavenly Father without being married.
  23. Quite a twist you put on this doctrine, eh? Well...you wouldn't be the first to twist the words of our God and prophets... If you kill a human being before he reaches that age (for that reason), you are trying to put yourself above God by doing something that he forbides...taking free agency away. Satan was cast down out of heaven for this. Humans were put on earth to go through trials and be tested and prove themselves. By killing a human being, you are cutting his journey short and disallowing him to progress any further on earth. This is a serious sin and is punished very seriously, as you acknowledged. This would not be considered a selfless act or a sacrifice, but as an abomination and blaspheme. Even if I am wrong, I wouldn't go trying it to see.
