I'm planning on getting married in the temple... but have only been paying tithing for the past 5 months or so... the wedding is in 2 months and I'm scared to go into the bishop (this is a new ward) for fear that he will not grant me a temple recommend... what do you think?

The interview question you will be asked. Are you a full tithe payer? or have you been paying your tithing. In either case, the answer based on the above will be "Yes".

That I am aware of there is no Church directive as to when you must pay your tithing in terms of daily, weekly, monthly or annually. However, what also impacts this is in December the Bishop has to fill out paperwork and indicate whether a member is a full, partial, or non-tithe payer. The way ths works is that they will announce is early December that the Bishop is scheduling Tithing Settlements with members. Post a sign up sheet. At that time, if you sign up, you will go into the Bishop, he will show you or tell you what your Tithing record indicates at that time. He will ask you if you are a Full, partial, or non-tithe payer. Some members, wait until that time to pay their Tithing for the whole year. Other members may have been paying it weekly, bi-monthly, etc.. The process is still the same. For those who pay it annually, if they were renewing their Temple Recommend in mid-year, they would still be ask the same question as you will be ask. They will respond "Yes", even though they may not pay it until 5 months later, when paying it on an annual basis.

Hope that helps ya. Good luck on your Temple Marriage

Thanks for your reply, I guess I've been over analyzing it because it would really throw a wrench in everything if I couldn't get a temple recommend... but I'm sure everything will work out. Thanks again, I feel more at ease.

Do you know what the living ordinances recommend is?

Also, what is a living ordinances recommend? How does it differ from a normal recommend?

You and your fiancé must each have two recommends signed by the bishop or branch president and the stake or mission president: a temple recommend and a Recommend for Living Ordinances.

Recommend For Living Ordinances - Because it is your first time through the temple for both of you, and you will be doing your own ordinances (living) for yourself as oppossed for some one who has already passed away. These are only necessary for the 1st time you go through the temple for yourself.

Temple Recommend - Good for two years. Allows you to perform Temple ordinances for

the dead.

Let me see if I can help you with this......I have spent 10yrs of my life as a Bishop....this is how I did it.....I cannot promise you that your Bishop will do the same.....if someone was wanting to go to the Temple for the first time....I would sign your Recommend based off what you said....I would also follow up with...if you stop paying tithing I will pull your Temple Recommend......I would do this the same way with someone who has not been to the Temple in awhile....ask them to pay for 3 months and I will sign the recommend....and expect them to keep their word and faithfully pay tithing after that.

Oh man, the law of tithing has been in force since Moses...you're hosed! ha ha just kidding. There is no set time in the manner in which you are asking. But dont take that to mean that you can just pay tithing for a few weeks before an interview either.

This decision will be made based upon you, your bishop, and the Lord. Do not fear. Just do what is right.

My husband and I were not able to be married in the temple at first because he had been a member for only a few months. Since we did not want to wait another year, we had a civil ceremony, and were sealed in the temple (to each other and my children) a year later, on our one-year wedding anniversary in fact. So even if you or your fiance are not able to get a recommend at this time, it is not the end of the world. You will still be able to do so in the future.

Each Bishop establishes his own procedures/policies as to how tithing and temple recommends work. You need to discuss it with your bishop quickly, in case you need to make adjustments to your plan.
