  1. I don't think it was stupid, but I guess everybody is entitled to their opinion.
  2. Because if they would have done that, they would have done it way before 1929.
  3. Well if GOD the Father and his Son Jesus Christ have long hair and beards in their Celestial form then why is it inappropriate for Temple workers to have long hair and beards or the missionaries?
  4. Wow! Well God bless her. She truly is a courageous woman.
  5. I do not understand why tithing seems to be so complicated for some members of the Church. It does not matter what other people's opinions are on how one should pay their tithing. The only opionon that matters is God's opinion. And God has made it very clear on how He wants his people to pay their tithing, and it is called Doctrine and Convenants Sec 119. 1 Verily, thus saith the Lord, I require all their surplus property to be put into the hands of the bishop of my church in Zion, 2 For the building of mine house, and for the laying of the foundation of Zion and for the priesthood, and for the debts of the Presidency of my Church. 3 And this shall be the beginning of the tithing of my people. 4 And after that, those who have thus been tithed shall pay one-tenth of all their interest annually; and this shall be a standing law unto them forever, for my holy priesthood, saith the Lord. 5 Verily I say unto you, it shall come to pass that all those who gather unto the land of a Zion shall be tithed of their surplus properties, and shall observe this law, or they shall not be found worthy to abide among you. 6 And I say unto you, if my people observe not this law, to keep it holy, and by this law sanctify the land of Zion unto me, that my statutes and my judgments may be kept thereon, that it may be most holy, behold, verily I say unto you, it shall not be a land of a Zion unto you. 7 And this shall be an sample unto all the stakes of Zion. Even so. Amen. If you are not paying tithing according to God's standing law then you are paying your tithing incorrectly. It is that simple. Or maybe I am the one not understanding Sec 119? Maybe tithing is about net vs gross and not on what I recevie. Maybe you can pay your tithing any time you want and not annually? When people read D&C Sec 119, do the words have some double meaning that I do not know about?
  6. I am thankful that we have a GOD that is holy and righteous, and that he gave his only begotten son Jesus Christ that through him we might be saved. I am thankful for the Temples, Churches, and Missionaries that spread the gospel and do good things throughout the world. I am thankful for the family I belong to. I am thankful that I have a job.
  7. Does Church leadership have bodyguards? If so, how does one become one? Does the Church train their own, or are these people just LDS by faith and bodyguards by profession. I have heard Howard Hughes had LDS bodyguards, so I would guess to say there are such people.
  8. Patriot or Traitor? | Ignatius Piazza | Front Sight Blog God provides that in this land of liberty, our political allegiance shall not run to individuals no matter how great or how small they may be. Under his plan, our allegiance and the only allegiance we owe as citizens of the United States, runs to our inspired Constitution which God himself set up President J. Reuben Clark, Jr. Men who are wise, good, and honest, who will uphold the Constitution of the United States in the tradition of the founding fathers, must be sought for diligently. This is our hope to restore government to its rightful role. President Ezra Taft Benson
  9. Thank you for your response. For awhile, I have been living with so much doubt and uncertainty to how I and my loved ones would face these times which I believe many of us will see. Recently my head has been filled with so many thoughts of failure, betrayal, and cowardice that it has me really depressed. So many fears of GOD not being with me to help strengthen me to face and endure Great Tribulation has me worried even though according to scripture I know I should not. I know my Father in Heaven and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ loves us. I also know that scum satan hates us and will do any thing he can to turn us away from GOD.
  10. How about these questions? What is to happen to the Church during the reign of the anti-christ? How are the Saints to survive during this period of time? I assume many of us will die for refusing the number of the beast. Will there be a place for the people to flee to for safety? After watching these links it seems the last days are now the last seconds.
  11. I am going to have to agree with GlockGirl on this one. And just because this link I found is from the NRA, does not mean that all of the citizens in the video are on the NRA payroll.
  12. I agree for the most part, but in the Word of Wisdom there is no absolute prohibition on alcohol consumption. If I remember correctly, it says no strong drink and wine except for wine during sacrament and mild barley drinks. I am still trying to figure out why most members of the church use the Word of Wisdom as the reason why for absolutely no alcohol consumption? Doctrine and Covenants 89
  13. The Word of Wisdom was being discussed by me and a few others in the chat sometime earlier, I and I assume some others, were a little confused about it's details. I think I've found something which helps to sum it up. The revelation given to the Prophet Joseph Smith uses the following words to define and advise against the use of harmful substances and beverages: "Strong drinks (meaning alcoholic or other harmful beverages) are not for the belly." (Doctrine and Covenants 89:7) "Tobacco is not for the body...and is not good for man." (Doctrine and Covenants 89:8) "Hot drinks [meaning black tea and coffee] are not for the body." (Doctrine and Covenants 89:9) The Word of Wisdom not only admonishes against the use of harmful substances, but it also describes those foods which are good for man: "All wholesome herbs God hath ordained for the constitution, nature, and use of man— "Every herb in the season thereof, and every fruit in the season thereof; "Flesh … of beasts and of the fowls of the air...are to be used sparingly; "All grain is ordained for the use of man...to be the staff of life... "All grain is good for the food of man; as also the fruit of the vine." (Doctrine and Covenants 89:10–12, 14, 16) The Word of Wisdom is a law and a principle with promise. When men and women obey the provisions of the law, they receive the blessings associated with those provisions. However, if they do not obey, there will be both temporal and spiritual consequences. Source: Word of Wisdom - Mormonism, The Mormon Church, Beliefs, & Religion - MormonWiki I believe for the most part you are correct Brenton, but what about verses 5 & 6? 5 That inasmuch as any man drinketh wine or strong drink among you, behold it is not good, neither meet in the sight of your Father, only in assembling yourselves together to offer up your sacraments before him. 6 And, behold, this should be wine, yea, pure wine of the grape of the vine, of your own make. It seems in these verses, GOD as allowed the use of alcoholic wine for the use of Sacraments. Also I am curious about what other LDS think about this verse from the WOW? 17 Nevertheless, wheat for man, and corn for the ox, and oats for the horse, and rye for the fowls and for swine, and for all beasts of the field, and barley for all useful animals, and for mild drinks, as also other grain. Barley for mild drinks would mean beer. It could not mean just barley and water mixed together because then it would cease to be a mild drink since there is nothing in the barley and water to make the drink mild.

  15. The text of Section 89: 1 A Word of Wisdom, for the benefit of the council of high priests, assembled in Kirtland, and the church, and also the saints in Zion-- 2 To be sent greeting; not by commandment or constraint, but by revelation and the word of wisdom, showing forth the order and will of God in the temporal salvation of all saints in the last days-- 3 Given for a principle with promise, adapted to the capacity of the weak and the weakest of all saints, who are or can be called saints. 4 Behold, verily, thus saith the Lord unto you: In consequence of evils and designs which do and will exist in the hearts of conspiring men in the last days, I have warned you, and forewarn you, by giving unto you this word of wisdom by revelation-- 5 That inasmuch as any man drinketh wine or strong drink among you, behold it is not good, neither meet in the sight of your Father, only in assembling yourselves together to offer up your sacraments before him. Here GOD states that strong drink or wine is not good, but the use of wine during sacrament meetings is good. 6 And, behold, this should be wine, yea, pure wine of the grape of the vine, of your own make. 7 And, again, strong drinks are not for the belly, but for the washing of your bodies. 8 And again, tobacco is not for the body, neither for the belly, and is not good for man, but is an herb for bruises and all sick cattle, to be used with judgment and skill. 9 And again, hot drinks are not for the body or belly. 10 And again, verily I say unto you, all wholesome herbs God hath ordained for the constitution, nature, and use of man-- 11 Every herb in the season thereof, and every fruit in the season thereof; all these to be used with prudence and thanksgiving. 12 Yea, flesh also of beasts and of the fowls of the air, I, the Lord, have ordained for the use of man with thanksgiving; nevertheless they are to be used sparingly; 13 And it is pleasing unto me that they should not be used, only in times of winter, or of cold, or famine. 14 All grain is ordained for the use of man and of beasts, to be the staff of life, not only for man but for the beasts of the field, and the fowls of heaven, and all wild animals that run or creep on the earth; 15 And these hath God made for the use of man only in times of famine and excess of hunger. 16 All grain is good for the food of man; as also the fruit of the vine; that which yieldeth fruit, whether in the ground or above the ground-- 17 Nevertheless, wheat for man, and corn for the ox, and oats for the horse, and rye for the fowls and for swine, and for all beasts of the field, and barley for all useful animals, and for mild drinks, as also other grain. Here it says it is good for man to drink mild drinks made of barley which is beer with low alcohol content. 18 And all saints who remember to keep and do these sayings, walking in obedience to the commandments, shall receive health in their navel and marrow to their bones; 19 And shall find wisdom and great treasures of knowledge, even hidden treasures; 20 And shall run and not be weary, and shall walk and not faint. 21 And I, the Lord, give unto them a promise, that the destroying angel shall pass by them, as the children of Israel, and not slay them. Amen Since we are not allowed to drink any alcohol, I am wondering where this prohibition came from? I have been told the ban on alcohol for LDS came during the time of prohibition of the 1920s. Is this correct or is there something I am not understanding correctly.
  16. I had just recently read Leviticus 21: 5 and I am starting to wonder if shaving my head (It is just easier to take care of and that my head hair is thinning on the top and back) is breaking GOD's commandments. Are we still under GOD's grooming standards of the Old Testament? IS there a offical grooming standard that we are supposed to abide by?
  17. Sorry For Not Responding Sooner For me when I read scripture it seems when GOD wants something done HE tells the people how to perform the task in a very specific way. For example, in Exodus and Leviticus GOD tells the Jewish people how he wants his Tabernacle built and how to perform the many sacrifices. When GOD explained this to the Jewish people HE was very specific and detailed on how he wanted these tasks done, and when the task was not done the way HE explained then consequences followed as in Leviticus 10 sec 1 (1 And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not. 2 And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD). The law of tithing is very specific on how GOD wants his Saints to pay their tithing (4 And after that, those who have thus been tithed shall pay one-tenth of all their interest annually; and this shall be a standing law unto them forever, for my holy priesthood, saith the Lord). If GOD wanted his Saints to pay tithing in any other way (daily, weekly, or monthly) then he would have told Joseph Smith when the revelation was given.
  18. Well if it is really the thought that counts and not the timing then would have GOD told his Saints differently on how/when you should pay your tithing when the revelation was given to Joseph Smith? When GOD gives a commandment and tells you how to perform that commandment is it alright not to perform the task his way but what is ever more convenient to the person who is commanded to perform the task?
  19. Interesting, but if GOD tells you how to specifically carry out a task and you choose to perform the task in a different way are you still keeping his commandments? If GOD did not care how often one pays tithing then why did he specifically state in his standing law that tithing is to be paid annually?
  20. During Katrina and Rodney King Riots I have often wondered what I would do in those situations to protect my loved ones from people who wish to do them harm. It would be nice if we lived in a world where everybody would join hands and sing Kumbaya in times of distress, but unfortunately in the real world it becomes a dog eat dog world with murder, assault, rape, and robbery. I already know that one person on this board has tried to do a gun thread as a means of preparedness but that thread was quickly closed. I have always included firearms as a part of preparedness. For the other Saints who do not believe in firearms, I am curious as to other means of self-defense you might use in situations of total un-rest, or have you ever given any thought to it? To those Saints who do have firearms as a means of self defense what do you use and what would you suggest to other people.
  21. I come to this board often to read posts but I have never signed up until now. I always thought that GOD's commandment on tithing was very simple to understand, but the more posts I read from other LDS I am starting to wonder if I am the one who does not understand it. Is there something in the Doctrine and Convenants that I am not getting right? In D&C it says: 1 Verily, thus saith the Lord, I require all their surplus property to be put into the hands of the bishop of my church in Zion, 2 For the building of mine house, and for the laying of the foundation of Zion and for the priesthood, and for the debts of the Presidency of my Church. 3 And this shall be the beginning of the tithing of my people. Here GOD establishes what he wants from the early Saints in regards to Tithing 4 And after that, those who have thus been tithed shall pay one-tenth of all their interest annually; and this shall be a standing law unto them forever, for my holy priesthood, saith the Lord. And after GOD tithed the early Saints this is how he wants his Saints to pay tithing from then on. Please correct me if I am wrong in my interpretation of sec 4 1.one tenth of all their interest means one tenth of all their increase. 2.Annually means yearly. 3.Standing law unto them forever means this is his unchanging Law unto us for a very long time. So if we are to pay are tith properly, we are to pay 1/10th of all of our increase yearly, and this law which will not change applies to us forever.
