  1. Well don't I feel dumb now. This should have been my answer from the beginning. My seminary teacher would be rolling in her grave right now if she were dead.
  2. I find it difficult to believe that works play NO part in it. I do not believe that works is the end-all be-all to gaining Salvation, but if "faith without works is dead", can it be said I have faith in Christ if my works do not match His teachings? I believe that it is striving to emulate His works, and *repenting* when we fail (and why would I go to Christ for repentance if I didn't have faith in Him?) that marks a true believer. If your faith in Christ is only carried in your heart, and not by your hands and feet and tongue working for the glorification of God, then what benefit is it to God that you believe in Him?
  3. Right. Hemi, sometimes you do make really great points, but when you bring up the whole "Judge in Israel" thing, I start tuning you out. I'm sure it's not your intention to come across so strongly, but just letting you know how it's coming across to me at least.
  4. Believe me, I *did* read it. I'm a fast reader. But he still didn't answer my question. And he still used the Revelation scripture as "reason" for closed cannon: That last sentence is incredibly arbitrary. John had no part in the compilation of the Bible, it was a council of men (not apostles) who decided what books were included, and in what order. And in fact, the book of Revelations wasn't even the last book he wrote! Was he guilty of adding to his own book? The book of Mark isn't adding to the book of Matthew, it is it's own book, in it's own right. It *supports* the book of Matthew, but it is not adding to it.
  5. But why would God rather have a murderer in His Holy Presence, than someone who typified Christian behavior, minus a belief in Christ? And what if that Bhuddist never even heard the name of Christ in his/her lifetime? Are they still going to be punished for that?
  6. I don't think you're helping the situation by judging her though, Hemi. It comes across as a bit heavy handed. (in my humble opinion. you can tell me to buzz off if you want. I'm no good at debating)
  7. So if you kill someone between now and when you die, you're still promised a place in Heaven, right? But someone in Tibet who is the Bhuddist equivelant of Mother Teresa is going to burn in Hell? Is that a just God?
  8. A scripture from the Bible in regards to that, please? Or is it a philosphy of man? Since it was at *least* a century after Christ before the Bible was compiled, did he say "Whatever my apostles write about me in the near future is all you need to know from here on out,"?? Was it a revelation to someone after the Bible was compiled, that it was the end of God's revealed Word?
  9. Hemidakota, although I don't "rebuke" you, per se, even I'm getting a bit put off by your tone.
  10. Could someone *please* provide some scriptural evidence of a closed cannon? So far nobody has provided anything, other than the verse in Revelations, which is very obviously only refering to the book of Revelation. WHY no more Prophets??? Why would Christ call the Twelve if he didn't intend for that organization to be the norm in His church?
  11. Yes I do fail to keep his commandments. But when I humble myself before Him, and confess my sins to Him, then He forgives me. His forgiveness doesn't mean I don't have to keep them though. I show my love and gratitude for Him by doing so.
  12. LDS don't sacrifice lambs or keep Kosher. We keep the commandments given by Jesus Christ, the Living Son of God, because we LOVE him. "If ye love me, KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS". And I am very much living in peace. I love my Savior with all my heart, and that makes all the difference in the world.
  13. HizWife: your post is a wee bit too long for me to address each point but I find it a bit curious that you said "no where in the Bible does it say that Baptism is necessary for salvation". John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. What is the "water" Christ is refering to here, if not baptism?
  14. Was it in one of those "RULDS2" frames?
  15. It's not a matter of how good we are, it's a matter of how *repentant* we are. We'll all fall short of perfection, but through Christ's Atonement we can be made clean again, if we repent. Again and again and again, He will make us clean!! And when He forgives us of our sins, then we are perfect, for His Mercy is sufficient. Though our sins be as scarlet, He will make them white as snow. So, yes, we have to be Perfect, and it is only through the Grace of Our Lord and Savior that that is even remotely possible.
  16. Thank you Vanhin, I needed that reminder. I really need to just avoid these types of threads.
  17. Proof, to me, that you were never here to "understand", but here to preach.
  18. Hello Bluestar! Hope you enjoy it here.:)
  19. I appologize for my brashness, but getting asked these exact same questions again and again and again, with the person asking them not *really* looking for understanding (because I really don't think you are looking to understand. you're here to "save" us and prove your interpretation of scripture. period.) gets really really old. I've encountered endless people like you. And I absolutely do sin. I'd be lying if I said I didn't. But it is through my Lord and Savior that I am forgiven of those sins, and through His Grace I am made stronger so that I can resist the temptation the next time I'm faced with it. He is my Lord and my Life. Without Him I would be nothing.
  20. I'd say so. She stopped trying to "understand" Mormonism a while ago. All she wants, IMO, is to "understand" if what she'd read about Mormons was correct, and if correct then out comes the ammo to shoot our "false teachings" down.
  21. But how does warning against false prophets mean there can't be real ones? Isaiah warned against false prophets, and there were still true prophets after him. Do with that what you want.
  22. True, but it is a revealed Truth of modern prophets. It's only those who claim EVERYTHING about their faith must come from the Bible who must absolutely support their beliefs from the Bible. LDS know that not all truth is contained within that Holy book. God isn't done revealing His Word yet.
  23. They're in cans. The church has canneries (at least in on the North American continant) where you can go to can flour, wheat, beans, dehydrated apples, and all sorts of other stuff. When it's in cans, that have oxygen absorbers inside (greatly hindering the ability for mold and such to grow) they can last for decades. :)
  24. Huh... Very intriging. It would certainly require the reworking of some church art, if this ends up being true.
