  1. I believe that it is just our regular names. In otherwords our names are not only put on the Records of the church when you become a member, and through sin, you name could be taken off the records and thus your blessing covenanted to you from our Hevenly Father are void because we did not follow through with our part.
  2. I think Ray just meant that being Charitable and being sanctimonious don't need to go together... I don't think he was disagreeing, just commenting.
  3. I think that God allows us to be our own moderators as we are capable, we as in the church. The Hebrews were given a much more stringent code of health, and made to live a lesser law. There were probably many who could have lived the higher law, but because of the wickedness of many, the code was imposed on all. Many today most likely could live correctly with out a code of health, but because of the wickedness of many, we all get the WoW.
  4. Oxymoron. ← Would you prefer the church hold everyones hand through every decision?
  5. The church has always opposed all abortion. In the cases of insest, rape, or danger to the mothers life, the church understands that the desicion is not something that can be covered by a blanket statement, and should be left to the indivual, their spouse, and the Lord.

  7. I hope that you do feel embarrassed about the way that you carry yourself in front of everyone. You belittle our faith and our beliefs. The power of the sealings in the Temple are one of the most important blessings to me. You have stated over and over that you think that they are worthless. Maybe you can appreciate how it can make us feel to have the closest things to us mocked.
  8. Well, Jason, I am happy in my faith, in my Savior, and the knowledge given me that this is His true Church on the Earth. Personally I have lots of insight on this topic, but I would not share it with you. I do not believe that you would take seriously or take any effort in trying to understand how these insights are valuable to me. Why is it you find a need to debate the gospel with us? There are only two reasons I can think of. 1. Try to lead others away. 2. Make yourself feel better about abandoning your faith. I ask you again why it is that you find a need to debate the gospel with us? I did not attack you Jason, I posted the Word Of God. If you felt attacked by it, that is your own concience. In a way, it is a good thing, that would show that the light of Christ that is given to all men, and that it is still in you.
  9. Now, let's not get upset here Ray. All Im getting from you are obscure blessings. Im asking for specifics. Im not getting specifics...just more of the same obscure promises. I don't know that it's your fault really. Your god has not said much in the D&C about all of this. He seems to have forgotten to be specific about how great it could be. Maybe he didn't realize that people like me would want to know, so he forgot to say anything? Anyway, I appreciate you're efforts here. Perhaps someone else will come along with more information. ← Jason, do you really need affirmation that you are justified enough to leave the church this bad? You should know as well as anyone what these blessings are. There is a couple of scriptures that I think is applicable here and could be a very good reason why you are unable to understand and appreciate the blessings to be had in church. Alma 12:11 And they that will harden their hearts, to them is given the lesser portion of the word until they know nothing concerning his mysteries; and then they are taken captive by the devil, and led by his will down to destruction. Alma 24:30 30 And thus we can plainly discern, that after a people have been once enlightened by the Spirit of God, and have had great knowledge of things pertaining to righteousness, and then have fallen away into sin and transgression, they become more hardened, and thus their state becomes worse than though they had never known these things.
  10. Tomato ~ Tomoto... The point is, is that is isn't biblically unfounded to believe that all may recieve a degree of glory. You see, in our faith, even the saved may be damned. So the teachings of many mansions fits with complete harmony with the scriptures.
  11. But all people will embrace the good news of Jesus. Phillip 2:9-11 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Here it says that every knee shall bow and every tounge confess that Jesus is the Christ... not just on earth, but below the earth and in heaven... that pretty much covers most everybody it would think.
  12. I cringe every time I hear anyone lump a bunch of people together and think that they can know the personal relationship that person has with Christ in any degree because they adhere to a certain religion or sect.
  13. Never, never, never, ever see that movie! I think that it is one of the most cheesy- false representation of mormon culture there ever was. No offense intended, but I would advise anyone who wants to keep there lunch in their stomaches not to watch this movie! BUT JIMMY YOU PROMISED!!!
  14. Love that song too, I downloaded the album, and had to delete every song but that and Wonderboy, but those two songs were worth it... "What powers you ask, how about the power to kill a yak... from tow hundred yards away...... with MIND BULLETS!!!"
  15. Which will you go for Which will you love Which will you choose from From the stars above Which will you answer Which will you call Which will you take for For your one and all And tell me now Which will you love the best. Which do you dance for Which makes you shine Which will you choose now If you won’t choose mine Which will you hope for Which can it be Which will you take now If you won’t take me And tell now Which will you love the best.
  16. This is interesting. I think that it's not an age thing, but more like a gender thing. I personally can't stand anything "catchy, bubble gummy, or romantic". To me it sounds so contrived and I hate the feeling that I am being patronized. I love (most) of the music of Tool... talk about angst, they are intensely angry, but it is the honesty in their music that draws me to it. But I also do like some music that is up lifting, and is sincere in their happiness or love. Unfortunately its hard to find an artist or band that can be continuously honestly happy. But I find that most of the female gender are drawn more towards music that is happy or about love... just a few thoughts.
  17. Jason, the truth is not in you. I don't believe that at all. If you really did think that, then you might listen to the responses to your question and then thank those who would share there feelings about something that they hold so dear, instead of retorting and arguing about the responces.
  18. Well, Jason, does it really matter to you anyway? I mean, what is the purpose of this thread for you? Personally, if I had any further insight on the matter that meant a lot to me, there is no way I'd share it here because you might just explain how it all boils down to sex or otherwise debase it. What you consider fluff, I consider very worthwhile. I'd imagine that the Pharisees and Sadducees considered the parables of Christ fluff as well. But that was just cause they couldn't understand them. If you want to criticize the beliefs that are at the base of the church that is the basis for the existence of this site, do it in the open forum, that is what its there for, isn't it?
  19. Ill jump on the Ben Bandwagon
  20. Elder Packer really is a great Apostle. Really puts things into perspective.
  21. President Joseph Fielding Smith “Children born under the covenant, who drift away, are still the children of their parents; and the parents have a claim upon them; and if the children have not sinned away all their rights, the parents may be able to bring them through repentance, into the celestial kingdom, but not to receive the exaltation.” (Doctrines of Salvation, 2:91) President Lorenzo Snow “Yes, in the next life we will have our wives, and our sons and daughters. If we do not get them all at once, we will have them some time, for every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus is the Christ. You that are mourning about your children straying away will have your sons and your daughters. If you succeed in passing through these trials and afflictions and receive a resurrection, you will, by the power of the Priesthood, work and labor, as the Son of God has, until you get all your sons and daughters in the path of exaltation and glory. This is just as sure as the sun rose this morning over yonder mountains. Therefore, mourn not because all your sons and daughters do not follow in the path that you have marked out to them, or give heed to you counsels. Inasmuch as we succeed in securing eternal glory, and stand as saviors, and as kings and priests to our God, we will save our posterity. . . . God will have His own way in his own time, and He will accomplish His purposes in the salvation of His sons and daughters. . . . God bless you, brethren and sisters. Do not be discouraged is the word I wish to pass to you. . . .” (address delivered 6 Oct. 1893; in Stuy, Collected Discourses, 3:364-65) These aren't the ones I was looking for, but they fall along the same lines.
  22. hmmm... Im pretty sure about it, I try to dig up my reference.
  23. I'm a little behind on this topic. Here is a good reason to be sealed to your family... I have read, and heard it taught, but I do not know the source... I thought it was in the Doctrine and Covenants, but I couldn't find it quickly... that by the sealing power of the priesthood, a couple may seal their children to them, so that they may join them in the celestial kingdom, as long as they had not done the two really bad sins.... I didn't see this brought up, forgive me if it has.
  24. No prob, I can't be caught actually agreeing with Please.
